Foone Turing

Nice! I tried this on my phone as well. In fact, I did a whole videos series of trying usb drives on everything I can find with a USB port. the tl;dr is ford focus: yes, ford escape: no, wii u: no, wd tv: yes :)

Been 27 years since I first used a 3 1/4 floppy disk :). Now I will have to try and get Wing Commander working on my phone or the original system shock from 1994. thanks for the idea

This is so "extra", I love it. We just need IBM to get back on the ball and make that Model M Portable.

I did sorta the same... N64 USB controller on KitKat with USB-OTG. I needed to charge my phone too so I bought a USB-OTG with power port (had microUSB, male USB A (Phone power) and female USB A (Perip data and power out). It looked like a rats nest but I did it! Complete with charging!

Must try this on my Blackberry Keytwo. I imagine it'd be excellent

I’ve always been rather sad that there are no usb 5.25” floppy disk drives. I would kill for such a device!

LazyGameReviews

There are USB interfaces for them at least. One of which I covered many years back called the Kryoflux, and another one called DeviceSide FC5025. The latter of which is read-only though.

LazyGameReviews

Nice. I tend to stick with Bluetooth controllers myself to avoid the rat's nest. Makes me wonder if there are Bluetooth N64 controllers.

I'm still trying to decide if this is awesome, silly, or pointless. But I'm going to go with a combination of all 3. Hilariously awesome. 10/10 :)

Next challenge: Install Monkey Island 2 from floppy to your phone. :D

This is the content I come here for (well, partially).

Things like this is why we use Android!

Alyxx the Rat

... this is how I wanna load games onto my phone now...

Tyler Kurth

I got a feeling this is gonna be one of those vids that will go viral on a ton of nerd sites!

Pablo Rodriguez

"Alright, while I wait for the bus I'll just play some games in my phone!" *pulls USB floppy drive and giant keyboard out of backpack*

I love this kind of stuff! Novelty nonsense just for the fun of it. Also had a good laugh when you were talking about touch controls being a pain, and I thought to myself "you should totally hook up the model M again!", followed by you pulling out the model M seconds later. That model M on a smartphone video is still one of my favorites of yours.

LazyGameReviews

Hehe, yeah I had to make it happen. It's just too much of a fun novelty not to experience again!

Carey Brown

I am SERIOUSLY jazzed about this video. I can't wait to see how well this works!!!

Carey Brown

Oh....my.... Clint, this is the best part of my week!!! Now I really want to try this on my phone. Thank you sir!!

Blair Harrison

next up, usb to vga adapter so you can actually play the game on a proper-era CRT :P

This. This has got to be the most on brand video I think you've ever done. I'm not surprised it actually all worked, but somehow.. I honestly found myself chucking quite a lot watching you all get giddy with excitement.

Anonymous

You should do more like this on one of your weekly video slots, one easier vid and a more involved one :)

Anonymous

This is beautifully absurd. Please take this to a coffee shop with your camera glasses.

WHAT THE HELL? the keyboard can interface with the cellular telephones UI? i had an ipad back in the day (it pissed me off, i smashed it, then fixed my laptop from 2002 and never went back) and when ever i used the keyboard from my ps3 controller on it only thing it worked for was typing in Skype.

Grumpy Old Wizard

This was a lot of fun. It is the realization of a dream back in the day. It made me smile. Thanks

This video is fantastic. Even my girlfriend got a laugh out of it.

GadgetBlues

Great stuff Clint. This inspired me to try out Magic DosBox on my Samsung S9 using DeX Station with an external monitor. Unfortunately Magic DosBox won't go full screen, even when using the "DeX MAX" hack app which modifies the manifest of the app to allow a resizable window. That didn't work on Magic DosBox at all, so it's just a little window in the middle of the monitor. Anyone know of an Android DOS box app that will go full screen on DeX? It would be a fun little parlor trick to show people full screen DOS games and then reveal that you're running on a phone!

LazyGameReviews

I've never tried one of those myself, maybe someone else can chime in! Would be really cool to see that, I agree

Splungedude

Yes! This is great! I love using old hardware on new machines that were never intended to work together, it's great when it works right of the bat!

Was a bit surprised when I saw that this video just appeared on a large Swedish gaming news site. :) https://imgur.com/a/fVvv6uc
