LGR - LEGO Racers: Build, Customize, Race and Win!

Taking a look back at the first Lego racing game on the PC from back in 1999! Classic arcade-style kart racing with power-ups that you can power up with more power-ups. Awesome. ● Consider supporting LGR on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/LazyGameReviews ● LGR social links: https://twitter.com/lazygamereviews https://www.facebook.com/LazyGameReviews ● Music used in order of appearance: I Know Karate, Neo Two K Six http://www.epidemicsound.com

Hey LGR nice video. On a side note, I know this isn't PC related, but any chance you'd be willing to share your thoughts on the Nintendo Switch portable console? Regarding its longevity as a console?

Kris Asick

I take it you didn't try the console ports, did you? I had the N64 version of the game back when it was brand new and it was TERRIBLE! You're forced to use the analog stick for steering, which given controls designed for digital inputs, makes it nearly impossible to control your vehicle, and the lighting is far worse and in some cases flat-out removed. There's seriously a track with an entire section of turns which are PITCH BLACK. Plus, if you push the start button immediately after crossing the finish line, the game locks up. You really should take a quick look at the console ports if you can; the differences in how they play compared to the PC version is night and day. :o

Nah, which is why I started the review saying "we'll be sticking to the PC version for this review." ;) I figured it's subpar though, at the very least in terms of framerate and draw distance judging by the YouTube videos I've seen.

I have a Switch, it's all right. I played through Zelda on it and that's about all I've done with it.

That "Power up, Power up" feature was in Diddy Kong Racing, the power ups in the game were balloons, but unlike Lego Racers, you pick up the same colour balloon again to upgrade it. From what I remember I think you can upgrade them twice before you peaked it out.

btw i dint encounter any of that safedisk crap and it can work 7,8,81,10 if you use the old version

That level up ability is kind of rad - along with the colour coded power-ups (which negates my personal frustrations on most kart racers). It feels weird that for a kid's game, the track design looks a tad too brutal though! Rad vid as always!

the 3rd bosses tracks were hard plus he always tried to get the green brick power ups

While I had trouble running this game on my computer, I somehow found a way that I've kinda forgotten. But honestly, I think the old NFS games are some of the hardest games I've had to get working on modern PCs. I don't suppose unsafedisk can work around them, can they?

LazyGameReviews

NFS1/SE runs in DOSBox, NFS2 runs okay and NFS2SE runs with nGlide, and there are fan patches for NFS3 and NFS4 (and probably the others too!) Check out the PC Gaming Wiki for info on all of them (in the side bar you'll see more links) https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/The_Need_for_Speed

that looks kinda fun.. I wonder if the Gameboy Color variant is decent?

Oh man, that is a blast from the past! I was terrible at racing games so I didn't usually play it myself, but that music brought me back to long afternoons of my brothers playing endless rounds, arguing over who got to use what scheme to control their cart, and getting into trouble for swearing when something didn't work properly.
