"Aren't they under enough pressure already?". I fear there's no such thing at Mnet. "Ricky has a very captivating look". I agree. It may be the eye brows. When you mentioned that next ep there will prob be a "time off/fun" ep, I totally agreed and was already looking forward to it. To then see it happening in this ep and be cut so short was really disappointing. So, in short, Mnet made the voting results EVEN longer and made the "fun" parts even shorter. Nice job Mnet. Jay and Hui dropping out of the top 9 was a big surprise for me (although there are better dancers/performers than they are), but from a commercial standpoint, I can see it being smart, since the shock could stimulate ppl to vote more.

Since you doing your reactions on a weekly basis, I hope you can avoid spoilers until the finale (stay off bird app lol)! Also there is an episode 13, an hour long post-BP interview with the formed group, I would recommend adding it to the schedule if you're interested! I was overall quite invested in BP and thats why im enjoying this "rewatch" with your reactions. Ofc the show is ultimately what its always been - a reality tv gig. Msnake will always try to manufacture drama wherever possible because it brings buzz to it. Its a shame really, they released SO MUCH extra content that is actually fun and wholesome, but its on youtube and im afraid casual watchers will not bother checking it out. There is stuff like missing bits from sports day, dorms behind-the-scenes, its so entertaining and you get to know some of those boys so much better! I hope despite mnet shenanigans you're still enjoying the program and that you will also get really interested in the group :)

I'm still in the middle of watching and writing my usual long-ass comment but I just wanna chime in and tell you that you CAN speed up the video. You need to right click on the video and there you get the speed options.

why am i doing this to myself again - The finale was a live broadcast and it took almost two hours from when the voting closed to the final 9 members being fully announced. Imagine how long it takes them here to announce 28 survivors. - Yes, but they did the same thing on Girls Planet. Having everyone train for the third round for a week before the eliminations. This is not new. - Key does have a very distinct voice, doesn't he? - Btw, this is completely irrelevant but I have recently decided that SHINee is one of my fixed top 10 Kpop groups and I'm including all of their solos in that ranking. If you're curious, my top 10 groups are, from first to tenth place: Dreamcatcher, Stray Kids, Loona, Mamamoo, Ateez, Taeyeon (her solo stuff stands far above SNSD for me), Twice, Billlie, SHINee (including all solos), Gfriend/Viviz. This has nothing to do with Boys Planet, I just wanted to get that out there :D - I don't understand how SuperCharger is supposed to be „sentimental“. And I've seen the final performance that came out of it. „Sentimental“ is one of the last words I'd use to describe it. - All of this is exactly the same as on Girls Planet. Eliminations halfway through training, viewers voting on who does which song. - I will say, I have no issues with the format that Mnet is doing here. Yes, it's tough but high stakes make for good television. What I do take issue with is evil editing, deliberately mistranslating what the foreigners are saying, creating unnecessary/imaginary drama, etc. - Jiwoong does not fall for your dirty tricks. - Yes. There will be restructuring after the eliminations. It's part of the challenge. - You only get one chance on the actual chance, so one chance to try for the killing part is only fair. - And Gyuvin got it anyway, no need to try again. - I really wonder what lead to the fans putting Jiwoong in Say My Name but I'm glad he gets to show a completely different side of himself. - Matthew being sneaky trying to be a second leader. I see you - Keita is just The Man. I really ought to check out his original group soon. - I said it under the last episode but I don't believe that Ma Jingxiang is being malicious. He's just young, inexperienced and permanently stressed out. He's only trying to look out for himself which unfortunately leads to him acting a bit inconsiderate. It's good that Jongwoo is there to put him in his place. - „I can't imagine the entire team just getting wiped out“ oh boy - The Switch team does have a horrible mindset. I first watched this episode through the Patreon reaction of Form of Therapy and they brought up a good point here: people with this sort of mindset „we're gonna get eliminated anyways so what's the point“ don't deserve to be an idol. If you're not willing to put in the work and do everything you can, despite all odds, why are you even here? This kind of behaviour is disrespectful. Not just against your teammates who rely on you but also against your fans who were rooting for you. I agree with you, Daniel. If this is their mindset, they should just go home right now. Give up their spot for someone else who actually wants it. - Exactly! This kind of attitude has an effect beyond this show. People will remember these candidates as the ones who gave up prematurely. This is gonna be detrimental to any future attempts of theirs to debut somewhere else. There are some candidates here that I will absolutely keep an eye on after elimination. Wumuti is actually a perfect example. Yes, he was eliminated in this episode but he gave it his all and I'll be looking out for his debut. He left such a great impression on me. But someone like Ichan? I said under the last episode that I was glad that he proved himself worthy of having survived into this round with a great performance. But his attitude in this episode destroyed that. I currently have no interest in following his further path beyond Boys Planet and that's all down to him not even being willing to try anymore. Way to disrespect the fans who voted for him. - I don't think it's an age thing. Ichan is 21 years old. He's a full grown adult. - And with the SuperCharger team you immediately see a huge difference. There's a lot of low ranking contestants here too but none of that doomer attitude. How ironic that this is the team where actually nobody besides Haruto survived. - Hey, better to mess up during the evaluation than on the actual stage. - Ah yes, ageism in Kpop. Lovely. „If you're over 25, you're not allowed to enjoy anything ever.“ That's how these people sound. But it also extends to those who want to become idols themselves. An Jeongmin, a contestant on Girls Planet did a livestream a little while back. She talked about how she was told from people in the industry that she's apparently already too old to debut. This girl was born in 2004! She's barely 19 years old! This shit infuriates me. Well, let's get to the killing. - Okay what the actual fuck Mnet. Why did you do that? Was this REALLY necessary?? Announcing these preliminary 28th place candidates? Just to torture them? Fuck off. - Great, and you've made Woongki cry. Fuck you. - The rise of Jongwoo. We love to see it. - Listen, I don't wanna keep dragging Shuaibo but why the hell is he above Woongki? From what I've read, he's just that popular because he's pretty. - Since they showed Cai Jinxin, here's a funny story: he completely bullshitted his way into the show. He has absolutely zero training experience and no actual intentions to become an idol. He basically signed up for shits and giggles and somehow made it past the first elimination. - At least Woongki doesn't have to suffer until the end. Still, fuck you Mnet. - No one from VocalRap. That's brutal. - I love Woongki :) - If you didn't pick up on it, Lee Hwanhee is one of the contestants who did actually survive the first round. But he then left the show due to health reasons. It's nice that they brought him back for this at least. - „If Gunwook is a princess I'm gonna laugh my ass off.“ 😂 - You know, Donggun actually looks quite convincing with that hair. - „Why does he look so pretty?“ I KNOW, RIGHT? - Doha kinda works too. - Jiwoong, well... He is pretty but in a very masculine way. The look with the wig doesn't really work with that sharp edgy jawline - „Oh, my eyes!“ Come on Hyunbeen, don't do my girl Gunwook dirty like that 😅 - Donggun actually looks way too convincing, what the fuck. He reminds me of Minnie. - Okay, maybe not anymore with the wig messed up - Wig snatched. Literally. - Since good skincare products are so expensive, this is a pretty good prize I'd say. - Park Gunwook vs. Yoon Jongwoo. A battle for the ages. - Time for some motherfuckin Genshin Impact! Alright, back to pain and suffering. - As this show went on, it got increasingly difficult to choose a top 9 with getting to know these guys better and seeing their talents. I did write down what my top 9 was immediately after my first watch of this episode and I'll talk about it below. - Yujin: „Yeeeah, suuure. I'll let Hanbin kiss me, mhm 😬“ - I follow Krystian on Instagram now and he does have that villain energy. And I mean that as a compliment. - They showed Ollie's cast earlier when Woongki and the other guy (sorry, forgot who) ran around annoying the other teams. - I didn't see any specific examples but apparently Hui received a lot of hate online during his time on this show. Don't ask, I don't know why either. - Not a fan of the usage of the word „sexy“ in regards to the 16 year old Yujin but ok. - Sung Hanbin. The eternal perfect golden boy. I'm actually annoyed at how perfect he is. How can a man be this devoid of any flaws? - You see how all of the other guys just seem to compliment Ma Jingxiang? He's clearly very well liked among them. One more reason to believe that he wasn't being malicious and Mnet just highlighted all of his worst moments. - If there was anyone who would have deserved to survive here, it's Wumuti. But this is my chance to tell you about the amazing legendary cover of Antifragile he did on his Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtYvnoM9fGs This is not my first survival show but it was the first one I pretty much watched in real time, not knowing the debuting group. Which makes the stakes feel so much higher. I think on the next season of the Planet show, I'll also participate in the voting so I at least can't blame myself if my faves don't make it. This was my top 9 as of the end of episode 8: Sung Hanbin (obvious) Zhang Hao (obvious) Kim Jiwoong (obvious) Kim Taerae (that voice, that smile!) Park Gunwook (I mean *wildly gesturing*) Park Hanbin (insane leadership skills) Yoon Jongwoo (*gesturing pt.2*) Haruto (rap skills and facial expressions) Cha Woongki (I love him 🥺) Keita was VERY close but I could only pick 9. If this was a 10 member group, he'd be in there. As for Jay, he's great, truly, but I got the sense that he would make for an amazing solo artist. That could be the better path for him and that's why I don't have him in there. Of course we can't predict these things but this is just the vibe I got.

first of all i would like to inform anyone who does not know. On April 24, 2023, the South Korean Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports announced a new amendment called the "Popular Culture and Art Industry Development Act". This amendment will drastically improve the lives of minor idols and impose big restrictions on the agency. among these things the agencies will have the absolute obligation to pass the studies of the minors before these activities of idols whatever the reason. which means no activity of idols during the exam period, prohibition to leave the schools before the complete end of the school curriculum etc. (one of the reasons is to also allow the idols to socialize and to make friends outside of their groups), agencies will no longer be able to impose rules that could compromise the physical or mental health of an idol before the age of 16 such as diets, imposing weight loss, night travel etc... , each agency will also impose a security guard and a psychologist who will have to meet the idol each month in order to take stock of his health and his mental state. Another subject is the salaries of minor idols will have to be paid on a account and give to the guardian of the idol (the parents). and finally they changed the working hours of the minors. -specific provision for underage artists - under the age of 12 no more than 6 hours bye day 25 hours weeks - from 12 to 15 no more than 7 hours per day and 30 hours per week - over 15 no more than 35 by weeks that means than all underage idols as to got 2 day off by weeks - it's a huge step forward for the rights of minors but it will also upset the industry and suddenly it puts pressure on agencies so that in the long term they no longer start minors. it will also impact existing groups such as NEW JEANS, BABYMONSTER and the idols of the current survival shows.

btw i wanted to say that the third ranking announcement goes way faster when you get to it the star master didn’t waste any unnecessary time, still giving suspense but not over the needed amount

Curious since this is an old reaction that I'm watching after the fact to see if you ever noticed or anyone ever pointed oout that Woongi was in TOO so you saw him prior this is Road to Kingdom.I've seen him in some survival shows after this too (Fantasy Boys - was horrible but don't watch the editing is somehow 10x worse.

Also, I was wondering if you were considering reacting to the I-Land season 2 survival show that starts in April (assuming it doesn't get pushed again). I think you'd really like it. If it's the same as I-Land season 1 it'll be much longer with fewer trainees so you'll get to see their potential much more before elimations starts if that's the case. The last one made one of the big boy groups (not naming in case you haven't been spoiled yet and might watch it someday - you'll probably be able to guess if you start watching anyway though) It's for a girl group this season. They've spent the last 3-4 years picking who is participating for the trainees. And had 2 or 3 different global auditions for the program. Just saying haha. I know it'll either get voted on in a poll or not but making sure it was on your radar.
