I love that we are getting a mini-reunion on Boys Planet with Hui and Woon gi.

yop PENTAGON is the biggest or the most successful and popular group amoung them , like MAMAMOO in queendom season one and WJSN in season 2. so now let's see who's gonna win this .

- I'm actually surprised that Cube let them bring up them losing a member. There are certainly times when groups end up pretending as if nothing had happened. - Based on how MNet does scoring, I would guess it would be very hard to get first in the finale, but not first in the overall score. The only way I could see it be done would also lead to that group being eliminated before the finale. - TOO with the nice swerve, and picking the Boyz. I love Pentagon picking on The Boyz too. - If The Boyz are using props, I wouldn't want them to go right after me since you might get forgotten. - Great horror vibes from Pentagon. - "You Are My Girl" is a pretty popular song in Korean Variety shows, good for joke endings with credits rolling. - The only complaint I have about Golden Child's performance is that the lights were a bit too much towards the start of it. Otherwise amazing performance. - Poor Oneus. - Oh man, VeriVery, that sucks that the guy sprained his ankle. I hope it isn't too bad. - I would say my top 3 are The Golden Child, Pentagon, and The Boyz, but all 7 groups did an amazing group. - I like this way of self-evulation more than just picking one above and one below. - Wow, I'm surprised Golden Child was 4. And then VeriVery 3rd. Like you, after Golden Child came 4th, I expected it to be Pentagon, The Boyz, and Oneus. - Kind of expected TOO to end up last due to being the first to perform. They didn't quite have that moment that made them stand out like say the Boyz who also performed early. - Was a fun episode. - Look forward to some great covers next time.

Alright, here we go. So because the only group here that I was actually familiar with was Oneus, I took the last week to check out all of the title tracks from all of the competing groups. Which was... a lot 😅 And they are all amazing but my two favourites were probably ONF and The Boyz. There is just something so appealing about ONF's music and their music videos are filled to the brim with lore and symbolism. You would probably also get a kick out of analysing that, Daniel 😁 And The Boyz might have the most basic ass name of all time but they make it up with amazing music. I'm actually annoyed at how much I ended up liking them. Because they're going on tour here in Europe pretty soon and the Rotterdam show just doesn't work for me timing wise while the Berlin show would be way too expensive (167€ plus train tickets, no thanks). So I just have to hope they eventually come back again. I mean, they've been here once already in 2019, so fingers crossed. Because Oneus is the only group I actually know beyond just hearing the title tracks once, I probably won't have as much to say here as I did on Queendom 2, so my comments are probably gonna be a bit shorter. Which might actually be a good thing 🙃 - Hehe yeah, Bring it on was heavy but No Diggity is heavier. Brace yourself. - BTS, GOT7, Monsta X, Nu'est, Seventeen. I like how they start off with arguably the biggest BGs out there to then focus on some lesser known groups for this actual competition. - No, Road to Kingdom was a year after Queendom. - Loona are already huge internationally, now I hope that they get that domestic success too. But I'm pretty optimistic about that :) - Absolutely boy groups have more freedom in that regard. Girl groups tend to get judged more harshly. From what I know, Korea still has a long way to go towards true gender equality. - I just noticed the „Load to Kingdom“ at the top. Nice :D - The Boyz debuted back in 2017. Their 11 members are Sangyeon, Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, New, Q, Ju Haknyeon, Sunwoo, and Eric. The two songs they showed here are D.D.D. (2019) and Reveal (2020). Both amazing songs! - Jacob was born in Canada, Kevin moved to Canada when he was 4 and Eric grew up in LA. So we've got three native English speakers in this group. - Verivery debuted in 2019. Their 7 members are Dongheon, Hoyoung, Minchan, Gyehyeon, Yeonho, Yongseung, and Kangmin. The songs showed here are Lay Back (2020) and their debut Ring Ring Ring (2019). - The humility is just part of Korean culture. Talking shit from the start would be seen as extremely disrespectful and it would NOT fly with the Korean audience. - And here we have Oneus. Debuted in 2019 under the same company as Mamamoo. 6 members being Ravn, Seoho, Leedo, Keonhee, Hwanwoong, and Xion. The songs shown are the debut Valkyrie (2019) and their first comeback Twilight (2019). With a bit of A Song Written Easily (2020) playing in the background too - Golden Child! One of the groups I'll be seeing live in London next month. Debuted in 2017 under the same company as Lovelyz. They have 10 members: Daeyeol, Y, Jangjun, Tag, Seungmin, Jaehyun, Jibeom, Donghyun, Joochan, and Bomin. The songs are the debut DamDaDi (2017) and Without You (2020). - Damn, you really don't remember Gollum? - The fact that The Boyz guessed wrong but still got a team that's on this show - I wish we got to see more of the call between Oneus and Verivery.

I am watching this for the first time.

- ONF! Pronounced like On and Off. Debuted in 2017 under the same company as Oh My Girl. They have 6 members: Hyojin, J-US, E-Tion, Wyatt, MK and U. The songs here are We Must Love (2019) and Complete (2018). - No Aurora is from Onewe, an actual band with instruments and brother group to Oneus. The keyboardist Dongmyeon is the twin brother of Oneus' Xion. - And here we have the youngest group, TOO. Yes, in a way you could see them as the Kep1er of RtK. Formed through an Mnet survival show and debuted just one month before they came to this competition. At that time, they didn't even have their first comeback, just like Kep1er. They're also managed by the same company as Kep1er. Their 10 members are Jaeyun, Chihoon, Donggeon, Chan, Jisu, Minsu, J.You, Kyungho, Jerome, and Woonggi. They actually renamed to TO1 in 2021 but it's still the same group. The only song shown here is Magnolia (2020) because that's literally all they had at the time. - They're pronounced by saying each letter individually. Tee Oh Oh. Or if you want to go by their current name, Tee Oh One. - Politely cut-throat if you will. - And finally, the most senior group, Pentagon. Debuted in 2016 under Cube where (G)I-DLE would also debut two years later. They currently have 9 members: Hui, Jinho, Hongseok, Shinwon, Yanan, Yeo One, Yuto, Kino, and Wooseok. However, they were here with just 8 members as Yanan was on a health related hiatus at the time. The songs shown here are their biggest smash hit Shine (2018, over 240 million combined views on YT!) and Dr. BeBe (2020) which is the one you said you want to check out. - Pentagon actually used to have one more member, E'Dawn. However, he started dating Hyuna and then they were both kicked out of the label because of it. Which is just so bizarre. Cube put Hui, Dawn and Hyuna in a trio called Triple H, had some REALLY suggestive scenes between Hyuna and Dawn (Hui was just kinda third wheeling there) but when they revealed that it wasn't just an act for the MV, they were kicked out. Eh, whatever. They're now thriving under Psy's label and happily engaged to each other. It was honestly the best thing that could happen to them. And Cube really shot themselves in the foot with that one because Hyuna was arguably their biggest star at the time. - Pentagon is another one of the groups I'll see at the MIK Festival in London. Very excited for that! - How do these guys keep on making wrong guesses that are still groups in this competition - „Down for your love“ - Reveal by The Boyz. - Task failed successfully. - Pentagon: „let's just send Kino's eye, they surely won't recognise that“. TOO, immediately: „That's Kino from Pentagon!“ 😂

- I haven't seen Queendom 1 yet but I can already say that I like the energy of Jang Sungkyu way more than Lee Yongjin of Queendom 2. - Ah, the trouble of the Korean language not differenciating between L and R. The letter ㄹ is kind of both but also neither. - You know, I like this elimination method way more than what they had on Queendom 2. There you had this constant bullshit of „Will Brave Girls get eliminated? Find out next week!“ All this baiting was so annoying and ultimately for nothing. But here, we know that, no matter what, two teams will not make it to the finale. I like that. It's tough but at least we know for sure what to expect. - And this is really cool too. Both the accumulated score AND the final performance on its own are important. It assures that everyone gives it their all in the finale, regardless of their overall ranking. - As always, I will talk about my opinions on these performances in a separate ranking comment but one really cool thing I want to point out right away is how free they are to play with the camera. There is no live audience beyond the other groups so you can face multiple different directions and so some really creative things. - TOO might be young and shy but they know how to troll their rivals :D - I would assume it's actually more of a traditional Korean vibe for The Boyz but I could be wrong. - Way to turn Shine into the complete opposite of the original song. - Golden Child coming in with some real heavy Dubstep and I LOVE IT. Honestly, the best kind of Dubstep is more headbangable than most Metal. Give me incoherent distorted noises and complex rhythms all day long! - I completely saw this coming from the moment when TOO chose The Boyz, that Oneus would be last :D - Kudos to Kangmin though, you really couldn't see it during the performance that he sprained his ankle. He powered through. - This self evaluation here is so much better than on Queendom 2. Instead of having to put someone below yourself, you just rank the other teams from 1 to 6. And nobody gets exposed for how they ranked anything. This is nice. - 5th place first. Eunha would say it sounds cute. - I'm just starting to get to know Pentagon but I already like how Hui is carrying himself as the leader. - Yes, going first was probably not the best move for TOO. There were six other performances after them so it was probably hard to remember for the other teams. - So round 1 is covers but they're covering groups outside of RtK. Interesting. - The cool as hell dude is Wyatt from ONF. He had a collab stage with Loona's Chuu at Kcontact last(?) year. Yes, I am actually watching this for the first time alongside you. Like I said, the only group I knew before this was Oneus and this just introduced me to a whole bunch of new favourites. Especially The Boyz and ONF. Seriously, consider doing a reaction to ONF. Their MVs will absolutely melt your brain. I'm excited to see what comes next!

now about the performance back in a day 3 group stood out in they're 90' secondes perf PENTAGON of course the acting and the story telling even if to me they didn't show really much about they're skill they didn't sing rap and they have a very short dance portion . THE BOYS for obviously they're outstanding dance and choréo , i love also the story . TOO like KEP1ER very energetic and great performance they show a little bit of dance ,and they're vocals .

Neph

Very cool that you're reacting to the full episodes! It's not my first time watching (i've watched the performances about a million times and listen to some of them regularly on spotify 🤣) but it has been a while since i've seen most of the in-between bits so rewatching will be fun. This season is my favorite for a lot of reasons, one of them being you can really feel more than just being competitive, the groups are really desperate to win and get their names out there. Especially the 4 oldest groups.

Joined Patreon to see you react to RtK. Excited to see what you think of it and which groups will stand out most to you. I loved that the groups were all so supportive of each other (when they weren't giving each other crap). Kingdom has that energy too. I was a fan of all the groups before RtK aired and was glad to see my underappreciated and lesser known faves getting more screen time. I didn't like that they eliminated 2 groups before the end of the competition when they're already struggling to get the recognition they deserve, but that's MNET for you. TOO were less than a month past debut when they joined. I instantly liked their debut track "Magnolia" and was glad they were getting some exposure through the show. Debuting during the pandemic had to be hard. They went first so they could get their performance over with without the build-up of nerves that would come with watching the more seasoned groups go ahead of them. I think it was probably a good idea despite the fact it made it harder for their performance to stand out. I watched RtK when it originally aired and have rewatched several of the performances many, many times. Though the reactions are one of my favorite parts of the show, I recommend that you watch the full versions of the performances on YT after you finish an episode. Can't wait for you to watch episode 2. Episode 1 was just an appetizer.
