I wouldn't say this on social media, but I have issues with this one. I've been a big fan for a while, and I was looking forwards to their comeback. I knew that, since they lost Soojin, their sound would be different, but that was expected. First off, this didn't sound like (G)idle One of the things I liked about them was that the music and the lyrics just flowed, and this didn't. I think that maybe somebody did a poor translation, but the lyrics felt choppy. I get the intent - they're talking about the conservative turn that S. Korea has made in rolling back women's rights and how they're viewed, but it seemed to jump around. Secondly, this didn't really show off their great vocal abilities, but that could be an artistic choice based on the harsh nature of the song. Next, the title. While they looked fantastic, they weren't representing "tomboy", they looked like they were heading to a club. Finally - and I have never done this before - I saw a lot of Blackpink in this. The title "tomboy" is the name of the song that Lisa danced to in "Lili Film: The Movie" where she showed that duality of being able to do what men do, but be able to be feminine and sexy. You even said this in your reaction - the duality, the "pink and the black". They also used "ping-pong", which is a small thin but the only other time I've heard this in Kpop lyrics was in BP's song "See You Later". It may all be coincidence, but it struck me upon first listen. It felt like they were trying to be a harder edged version of BP. The song itself is good as is the M/V, and I'm not hating on it, it just left me wanting. In a brief check, the numbers aren't as good as you'd expect for a top group's comeback song. On YouTube they have just 25 million views in over two days. As a fan, that worries me. This is a different sound for them, and it's not bad at all, I'm not saying that, it was just unexpected, and I'm not sure how it's going to fly. Hopefully, I'm wrong.

I think the actual meaning of Tomboy got lost in translation somewhere, but the song is absolutely hot. As someone who grew up with Nirvana, Bush, Foo Fighters, etc. I love the dirty guitar riffs and the decision to go for attitude instead of vocal intricacies.

I mean 25 million in 48 hours is pretty good. On par with groups like itzy and TXT, and those are from major labels. The song is currently on #1 on SK Spotify, SK Apple music, SK Youtube daily and so on. I'd say it's doing ok.

I don't think it's that good for a comeback song. And, yeah, It's doing well in Sk, but Idle was building it's International base. The numbers for Kpop keep getting bigger because Kpop is getting bigger, and that's happening outside of SK. 25 million being good last year, may not be as good this year - Kpop is growing Internationally really fast. Like I said, I hope I'm wrong, and I hope you're right. I hate being negative, but I had some problems with this, and I had to get it off of my chest. Thanks for the reply.

I can understand the complaints, but this song is totally my jam and I love it. At this point, I would say it is one of my favorite songs of the year so far.

Honestly, coming from metal music I'm still getting used to the fact that 20+ million views is considered to be almost decent but not great, cause I remember seeing comments on Nmixx debut and the same things were said about it performing poorly, despite 45+ million views. With that being said I absolutely respect your opinion and I get where you're coming from, it is a big departure from their previous sound and I loved that they went for it, and it was the perfect time to change it up with Soojin being gone (Not to mention the politics in Sk, which I don't know too much about therefore I wont get into it but I got the basic idea from the comments on YT), I think they knocked it out of the park, personally.

@mikkj1 Interesting viewpoint, thx for sharing. I'm on the opposite site. Love this song (its even a contender for my favorite gidle song), this direction and to me it still sounded and looked very much like (G)I-DLE. One of the biggest strength for (G)I-DLE was that they experiment and surprise while stile maintaining a "(G)I-DLE" flair. This one was not different to me. Blackpink is my favorite modern girl group. Besides "female empowerment" I didn't see many similarities to them. As for the numbers: The views are good. After disappointing views for their last MV HWAA (5 mio in first 24 hours), they're with Tomboy (12,9 mio in first 24 hours) back on track to their previous successes. It already is the titletrack with the highest peak (at #4) on MelOn daily charts as well (among other charts). It's better than for example Dreamcatcher and more in the line of ITZY but of course they're still not playing in the "big leagues" like Blackpink, Twice or Red Velvet etc.

Just checked out their comeback stage on M Countdown. Damn, they had both an amazing intro and outro for that performance. They went above and beyond here.

The stunts were awesome, though I don't think a clothesline by Miyeon could actually impress anything bigger than a Chihuahua. But Minni went to town with that bat.
