Se-ri’s dad was signing papers at National Intelligence Service (NIS : equivalent of CIA). Se-ri must’ve been transferred from the military to NIS upon her return and investigated (what with her having crossed over from the North), and her dad must’ve been notified of it. He kept it secret from the rest of the family and cooperated with NIS to get her cleared, which explains the 2 weeks’ timeline between her last day in the North and her first day back at her company.

I think Seri's dad scammed Seung Jun's dad, because it was the story a long time ago. Seri's Dad was in prison and got out in the first episode also makes that theory a possibility. 1:42:40, I think the message is that they want us to know that people in North Korea are deep down still human, they do value friendship and have hospitality. Although their idealogy is different (they can't help it, it's where they grew up, and they can't defy their government), they still have a heart like other human beings in the freer countries.
