So from what I've gathered as to why Lakan asked for the Blue Roses: 🌸 from a politically strategic pov, it was to take away attention from the presentation of the new concubine, Loulan, and therefore subtly diminish the father's influence & presence which are implied to be a possible threat to the current reign 🌸 to get Maomao's attention essentially, he probably figured Jinshi would ask for her help and she wouldn't shy away from the challenge. In retaliation, Maomao used the nosy lady-in-waitings to start a "red nail" trend and as a result trigger Lakan and get a reaction from him 🌸 third, and more personal ig, was nostalgia maybe (which is addressed in the next ep) Lakan truly adept at manipulating others to do the work for him so he gets the results he wants without lifting a finger 🧐 ❗mild spoilers ahead❗ Absolutely in awe of how intentional that scene of Loulan and her ladies in waiting during the presentation is and what it's hinting 👀 #iykyk

I do also believe he wanted to put Jinshi in an uncomfortable position! Lakan could have told everyone that there would be blue roses at the garden party, and if Jinshi failed to provide them (remember, it's his job to organize these things), he would look like a fool

The girls in the background all episode admire how fantastic of a person MaoMao is, but they are too guilty and afraid of her still being angry with them for being so mean and stupid that they won't approach her. They admire her so much that the first two, despite being scared off, went to get their friends to see how cool MaoMao was. They even think so highly of her as to think that something she did was worthy of being "in fashion", high praise.
