another thing you could have noticed is that 1. MaoMao’s parents are both quite unique and show love in their own special way. 2. MaoMao’s childhood was traumatic. that’s why she struggles with feelings.

2024-06-17 05:21:24 Lakan's story is truly tragic (miscommunication trope with actually awful consequences) I think the shame wasn't from Luomen becoming a doctor per se, but rather becoming a eunuch: to enter the rear palace, even doctors have to be a eunuch (unless you're the emperor or his kin). Re: the letters, presumably Lakan's residence (where Fengxian sent the letters since she didn't know he left) didn't forward Fengxian's letters to Lakan.

Plus this would line up with Loumen losing his job because of Ah-Duo losing her uterus, and him not noticing (or been involved in) the swapping of Jinshi and the previous emperor's son (the current emperor's brother) who died shortly thereafter.

I feel so bad for Fengxian because it was not only that she has to take regular customer, she was the most famous courtesan in the Verdegris House, only a few could even talk to her and now everyone can afford to "be" with her. I can only imagine how far worse than starting as a regular courtesan should have been. That's also why I hate the old lady, I mean, so nice of her not throwing her on the street but maybe not exploit her until she got sick would have been nicer.
