So, I've been testing a LOT with animations and although a few came out pretty well, I have to say a lot of the time it's not that great.

The greatest downfall in producing animations is DEFINITELY the loooong rendering times: we're talking 2 hours to make 5 seconds of 'footage'. That's just not going to help me.

Luckily, there's multiple ..huh.. "modes" in which I can make this happen.

Take a look at the two samples above:

1. Texture: the first is made in a quicker quality, it takes only minutes to render and I can still filter it and edit it to a degree to make the image be as pleasing as possible, and while it surely doesn't look "photorealistic" it looks pretty convincing to me. It really reminds me of early Tekken animations and the ending of characters in most pre-PS2 videogames from 1998 to 2006. A golden age of videogames, in my opinion, before the whole industry started trading good stories and mechanics for "higher quality". Overrated, in my humble opinion. Nice to watch, but lacking substance.

2. Photoreal: and then we have the type of quality I always use in my stories, photorealistic and super high quality, but a lot of the time (judging from my twitter, DA and instagram audience at least) coming in second place when running against anime girls and badly drawn hotties.

Why is that?

Perhaps people see "realistic" women as bitchy and prefer their 'waifu' to look like she came out of a completely fake universe that little has in common with reality.

Can't really blame them, can we?

Sooooo....

I decided I might try an experiment.

While I do have stories to finish in my usual style, I haven't really given much thought to these other modes, like the first one you see up here.

Personally, I don't think it's bad at all (it's slightly edited) and it gives me that PSX game vibe where I used to worship female fighters, heroines, and generally hot beauties that populated my youth.

After I've tried that (assuming everything goes right.. there still is room for improvement in that, and 'glitches' to fix..) I'll see if this really is as bad as it may look compared with the highest possible quality.

Last thing I want is to start making animations that keep my machine busy for half the day, especially with the coming hot season.

We'll see what happens.. I'll keep you updated in the coming days and show you some more samples.

Later!

-Tony
