It’s kicking up!!! These episodes do a lot for SU I think. Or at least show examples of the core of the show. Rebecca said fairly early on that Steven as a show only operates from the perspective of Steven- if he doesn’t know something, we as the viewer also don’t get to know it, evident in a lot of things but particularly in him not knowing about Lars and Sadie breaking it off and Sadie getting with Shep. He’s been too busy to connect with them like that. As for Cactus Steven, I think the parallels with Pink Diamond and the other diamonds are really cool. She didn’t mean to hurt anyone, but she was basing things off the only example she had. And just like Cactus Steven, when she acted out of line she got locked in that awful tower and deprived of light, shown with Steven putting that box over his cactus. There’s such cleverness in this dang show.

I get being upset about Lars and Sadie not working out bc when the show started, they were kind of portrayed as the stereotypical end game side couple. But if you think about it, Lars and Sadie weren’t actually good for each other. From the episodes they share, especially the island episode, they kind of bring out the worst in each other. They’re able to be friends now in a less toxic way than before because they both grew as people a crazy amount, which in my opinion is a really good ending.
