This one feels better in retrospect of the ending. Definitely the weakest but still it’s a good track record for a show

This is a slow build. This show is dropping hints of what’s the main cohesive theme of this epilogue series. Also, season 5 being rushed was outside of Rebecca Sugar and the Crewniverse’s hands. Cartoon Network was going cancel the show when they were developing and making season 4 while like season 1B or early season 2 was airing and then the show got huge and then they renewed it. Then they told Sugar if she moved forward with the wedding storyline with Sapphire and Ruby, then they would cancel it for sure and this was after season 5 had been planned and some early episodes were being produced. Sugar stuck to her guns because the wedding was one of the reasons she wanted to make her own show as she felt it was important to have queer representation in children’s programming. So they made the final arc of season 5 with the idea it was the end so they had to rush it because it was too late to redo season 4 and 5 as it was already far into production and were originally conceived and paced with the idea that season 6 and 7 was going to follow. Then, the show kept growing in hype and popularity that when the Crewniverse was wrapping up season 5 and with those episodes being already well into production and out of their hands to change, CN told them they wanted to continue it. This put the Crew in a bind because season 5 had pretty much hit the main points of the series final arc. So, that’s when Sugar offered to do the movie. CN then said they couldn’t do the movie unless there was something to follow-up, so Sugar came up with Future to hit the beats she had originally planned to hit when there was going to be 6-7 seasons of the show but, as you will see, Future is not just about tying up story beats that the original wasn’t able to do due to CN’s business decisions but became something even bigger and important.
