Hello, fellow Pipers! 

Got no time to talk I'm a dead~ girl~ walking~

Yeah...Creating animations is like... being in the dead girl walking situation 😭 The results can be different based on how you manage your limited time. Therefore, wisely setting priorities seems to be a crucial task.

Last week, my goal was to complete concept art and thumbnails. Based on the ones right below, I didn't accomplish much except for collecting references. Embarrassingly, both concept art and thumbnails were left unfinished from last week to this week because I didn't set the right priorities.

At times like this, I decided to seek advice from an experienced friend who is working at an animation company.

🐿🐢Rambu: I haven't finalized the background or the style yet (concept art) 😖 I also have to work on animation and camera direction sketches (storyboards)... Where should I start first? 

🧐😎Friend: When designing the background, start by receiving rough sketches (thumbnail boards) from the storyboard artist. Those sketches can help you build the design using composition. Since you're more familiar with direction, why not start from those sketches?

To put it simply, what was needed at this moment was the task of "categorizing the image that will be actually used"! Once priorities and working methods were set, I was able to proceed with the work using the methods I practiced during my time as a musical animator.

Work process: 

Kick-off => Thumbnails=> Storyboard ===> Drawing Concept art based on storyboard

I'll detail the process and tips on the next diary post!

And!! 

Another variable within the set priorities is... the lyrics are undergoing changes as they are handed over to the composer. While the storyline remains fixed, as we continue sketching, holes in the existing story begin to appear. Therefore, until the end of August, August 31st, my goal is to rewrite the script once more and finish the thumbnail board sketches!

Moreover, the most nearsighted goal is to complete the following by September 21st:

1. Fully colored main image
2. First draft storyboard
3. Script within 10 pages
4. Character design sheet (2 sheets)
5. Style and color board (1 sheet)

Time is fixed, so we must keep pushing forward!

안녕하세요 동료 파이퍼즈 여러분!

람부입니다.

애니메이션을 만드는 일은... 정말 시한폭탄과 함께 마라톤을 하는 작업인것 같아요. 한정된 시간을 어떻게 쓰는지에 따라 다른 결과물이 나오기 때문이에요. 그런만큼 우선순위를 현명하게 정하는게 참 중요한 일인것 같습니다.

지지난주의 저는 컨셉아트와 썸네일을 완성하는것을 목표로 삼았습니다. 바로 이 아래의 것에 기반해서 저는 저번주와 이번주 부끄럽지만 컨셉아트도 썸네일도 제대로 완성하지 못한채 레퍼런스만 모았습니다. 왜냐하면 우선순위를 제대로 잡지 못했기 때문이죠.

이럴때일수록 경험자의 조언을 구하는 것이었습니다. 회사경력이 꽤 있는 지인분에게 질문해 보았습니다.

🐿🐢Rambu : 아직 배경도 스타일도 정하지 못했어요(컨셉아트)😖 애니메이션이랑 카메라 연출 스케치(스토리보드)도 해야하는데... 무엇부터 손을 대야 할까요?  

🧐😎친구: 배경을 디자인할때는 먼저 스토리보더가 준 낙서들(썸네일 보드)을 받아요. 그 낙서들을 보면 구성을 이용해서 디자인을 쌓아갈 수 있거든요. 람부님은 연출이 좀 더 익숙하시니까, 낙서부터 시작하시면 어떨까요?

🐿🐢Rambu : 아하..!!

단순하게 말하자면 우선순위와 시간안배를 위해서 "상상속에 떠다니는 이미지들 중 실제로 사용할 이미지를 분류" 하는 작업이 먼저 필요했던 것이었어요! 

그렇게 우선순위와 작업 방법이 정해지고 나니, 그동안 뮤지컬 애니메틱을 하면서 연습해온 방법들로 작업을 쭉 진행 할 수 있게 되었답니다.

다음 다이어리에서 구체적으로 어떻게 작업이 진행되는지 과정을 자료와 팁을 함께 정리해서 작성해보도록 할게요.

그리고!!

우선순위 속 또하나의 변수는... 가사가 작곡가분께 넘어가면서 변화를 거치고 있다는 점이에요. 스토리 라인은 고정되어있지만, 이와 함께 스케치를 계속하면서 기존의 스토리에 구멍들이 보이기 시작했습니다. 따라서 8월의 마지막 주인 8월 31일까지는, 스크립트를 한번더 고쳐쓰고 썸네일 보드 스케치를 다 마치는 것을 목표로 두고있습니다!

그리고 가장 근시안적인 목표는 9월 21일까지 밑의 사항들을 완성하는 것입니다.

1. 풀채색된 메인 이미지 1장

2. 1차 스토리보드

3. 10페이지 이내의 스크립트 1매

4. 캐릭터 디자인 시트 2장

5. 스타일 및 컬러보드 1장

남은 시간은 정해져있으니 앞으로도 열심히 달려봐야겠죠!
