Sneak Peeks, Plans and Updates for the Week of June 12 (Patreon)

Hello, Patrons! Been awhile since I did one of these properly, what with my brain gradually turning to mush. But! I hope the fact that I have a ton of goodies for you today makes up for that. Let's get to it!

Original Script Updates!

While I didn't succeed in writing anything during May like I hoped, I've been putting my nose to the grindstone this month.

The Tsundere Frog Princess, based on a Patron request by PsionicsKnight, is finished! It clocked in at around 3000 words, so I think the final audio will be in the 25-30 minute range. It's also going to be a series, apparently! Which was not the plan, but sadly I'm not in charge of my brain, I'm just along for the ride.

A sequel for Capturing Your Own Damsel in Distress also materialized from the ether last week, and it's almost complete! Right now it's sitting at around 1800 words; it may end up around 2500, depending on how a few elements develop--or don't, as the case may be.

Started writing the script for another Patron request, Yandere Cartoon Girl Climbs Out of the TV to Kidnap You but it's turning into something quite different against my will! Some of the plot elements are there, but it may not turn out to be a yandere at all, ding dang it. >.<

Before August at the latest, I want to churn out the script for Meeting a Spunky Crab Girl on the Beach, another Patron request. I have hit the stumbling block that I can't stop thinking about making her a horseshoe crab and I have no idea if anyone would find that remotely attractive.

My brain also decided to cook up something for Halloween. Like last year's Yandere Girl Stalks Your Favorite Sexy DJ, this one will take awhile to percolate. It is expansive, it is labor intensive, it may be insane! But I want to have it done in time for Halloween. The only hint I will give you as to its content is this: Ivory Soap.

And finally, I am banging my head against a sequel for Your Yandere Mad Scientist Wife Duplicated Herself! I have an idea for the ending, I have an idea for the beginning, now I just gotta knock out that pesky middle. I want to get that finished and recorded sometime in July. Pray for me.

Commissions and Other Art Updates!

Good news, bad news time.

Bad news: First, the latest spicy Velvet commission--for the Patron selected theme "Summertime"--fell through. So I'm back to square one there. But hey, things happen. Artists have real lives too! I'll be commissioning someone else for that this week if possible.

Also bad news, I still haven't heard from the artist I commissioned for a character reference sheet, so that's an additional headache. I don't know if I'll be able to get a refund or what, but we'll see.

Now for the good news! 

Starting this week, and to coincide with the upcoming brand refresh, the channel will have a new screen for most audios:

Some listeners have shared that some of the previous idle screens for audios have been too bright to fall asleep to, so I decided to look around for a suitable replacement. This screen will be used most of the time, except during events and on certain special occasions. Which is where our next bit of good news comes in!

After a lot of number crunching and chasing around talking with artists, I've had to put a pin in getting thumbnail commissions at the moment. But, I found an alternative solution that works within my current budget!

I've purchased a selection of premade art in various styles, ranging from cartoony-cute to anime waifu! While it's non-exclusive, so not quite as bespoke as custom art, it's still a step up from buying stock. Think of it as a stop-gap reward until I find more workable commissions.

Not only are the pieces more in-line with the appealing anime/cartoon style art that dominates the ASMR space, I secured very simple commercial streaming permissions from the artists. That is a HUGE advantage over navigating the TOS of stock image sites, at least for me.

Basically, I can use the purchased art in-video without worrying about potential legal ramifications. 

To that end, I also picked up some looped animated backgrounds. Soon, Vanilla Velvet Audio will offer more immersive audio experiences on youtube. 🎉 Here's an example, in extremely shitty gif form:

I hope to do an audio with this kind of imagery once or twice a month (during non-event months) and balance the rest of the schedule with the static idle screen previously mentioned. My computer is positively geriatric in laptop years, and I don't think it can handle rendering more robust videos all the time.

The cost per-video would also be prohibitive right now. I wheeled and dealed my little heart out for the art I already secured, but the cost breakdown per audio is still kinda steep.

I do wonder how the new style videos will perform. Will they bring in new listeners? Will people who prefer to imagine their waifus revolt? Will half my listeners like the static screen, and half like the animated, thus guaranteeing nobody's happy? No idea! We'll see!
