It's one of the crazy things about living as a noble in a medieval society: you don't get to marry for love. You have to marry for position. It was pretty standard in European kingdoms to marry for position and keep a side piece that you're in love with. A couple of things that I noticed this time that I didn't notice before: 1. Sansa is the one that gave Ned the idea that Joffrey doesn't look anything like Robert. 2. Robert slapped Cersei in front of Ned. I didn't notice before how much she glared at Ned. I underestimated how much that incident may have turned into a grudge against Ned.
