I have not read the books or seen the movies. I think the adults are written this way because it is a Show for young adults. Adults being less than trustworthy is a trope in so much young adult media and is done poorly here.

I'm not sure if i'm the first person to say it or not, but just to avoid an ongoing thing, Grover is 24, yes, but satyrs age/mature slower than humans in this universe. So yes, he's twice as old as Percy, but he's about at his maturity level. He just knows more things than a normal 12 year old would. I sorta see it like his wisdom is about at a 12 year old's, but his intelligence might be at a 24 year old's.
