For me personally, the character moments drive this show into greatness. I generally agree with you on some of the story beats and some of the flaws, but I think the character development and relationships that drive the story are the beating heart of the show for me. As for the gods, I generally saw the 2 different religions we see as being different interpretations of "Truth" rather then completely different gods.
