I also thought Eren was the least interesting character when I was watching it for the first time. I felt like the show was doing great without him and that the writer had to force him back in the story because he is the main character. My take on his character changed a lot during s4 and I find him much more interesting now but I initially found him quite annoying.

Commenting at 7:17 Knowledge about abnormal Titans and their unpredictable behavior was already available through previous scout missions and research, though perhaps this specific detail about their possible attraction to high concentrations of people was not previously explicitly mentioned as far as I remember. As for the Turkey Titan, the fact that it ignored everyone on the way and headed straight to Orvud shows its abnormal behavior. Titans normally try to devour any human on sight without discrimination.

I believe it was mentioned in the first arc (if im remembering this right, been awhile) with the attack on Trost, one of Armin's plans was to have all the military stand in one corner of the wall to attract the titans away from where Eren was trying to plug the hole with the boulder.

Also Eren wasn't surprised that he couldn't control the titan, he made fun of the "Tiny old man" and then realized he said that in front of Levi, who is short lol.

Abnormal titan movement is actually the reason for walls' structure. It is a minor detail but it is a cool one. As you know each wall has 4 discricts peeking out of the circle, that's made intentionally to aattract titans to the places with largest human population. This way, they don't have to protect the whole wall perimeter and can concentrate on monitoring the situation around those 4 discricts like Shiganshina.
