just FYI, no one calls Hange Zoe , Zoe. The only time her last name is mentioned is when she is introduced. Also , you probably know that Japanese names use the Eastern tradition of Family name first, then given name. However, in AOT, you may have noticed that most names are European names. The show uses the Western tradition of given name first, Family name last.

Actually this is in the manga, and the author wrote spin off books for Lost Girls and No Regrets. So it's all cannon. It was just removed from the main anime series for some reason. Also, Hange distracted Oluo that's why he almost died, and that's why Levi was pissed.

KratosRager

I was gonna comment this too. It’s annoying that they keep calling her Zoe. It’s definitely just Hange.

KratosRager

The harsh black lines were there in all of season 1. You just didn’t notice them. It probably looks weird cause the animation gets smoother in seasons 2 and 3.

Moons

It’s just easier for them to call her Zoe for now. Nothing to be upset about

One clarification: Oruo wasn't biting his tongue in that scene. Hange nearly accidentally choked him out as she had in an earlier scene.

Patrick Crawford

You might find this interesting: Hange is non-binary in the manga, and Isayama was very insistent that they weren't gendered in translations. The anime basically ignored this unfortunately though.

Nope, she has him by the scruff, and his tongue is between his teeth. When she drops him he bites his tongue when he hits the ground, which causes a spray of blood.

Aaron Wittwer

I rewatched and you are correct. I didn't catch that he bit his tongue when he fell, which I think is actually a kinda more subtle, fun way to reference that bit fro m the series proper. But his tongue is sticking out in the first place because he has nearly passed out from her grabbing his collar.

I had never seen this before that was weird as heck haha. Fun to watch something for the first time with these two. Also huh I guess this will change the reaction to the upcoming season.

uh pretty sure this isn't true, it's never stated they it's a he/she/them or whatever, people just assume she because boobs, but it isn't specifally stated Hange is non binary, basically Isayama leaves it up to interpretation, so if you want it to be a she, then it can be.
