2024-04-12 00:51:08 If there was ever a time I felt sorry for Buntaro, it's this episode! he both deserves it all, and deserves so much better . . . all at once. Despite having read this book cover-to-cover at least a dozen times, I'm enjoying being caught by surprise at every turn. We're so far off the book at this point . . . and I love every second of it. Much like The Expanse, it's a different story, but it's the same story, and these performances are so mind-blowingly fantastic I absolutely love it. Hiromatsu's seppuku ranks right up there with the Episode 2 map scene, in my opinion, as two of the best scenes ever written. I will get goosebumps every time. I love your appreciate of this show, and your observations. It's so satisfying knowing there's others out there who appreciate this masterpiece the same way I do! Thanks, as always, for your reactions! ---- P.S. Also . . . not just a brothel next door . . . the whole red-light district! :-) Great punch-line I ALSO wish had been in the book!

I didn't read the book, so I only know the story as the show has presented it, but I didn't think the seppuku seen was premeditated. It seemed to me that Hiromatsu realized in that moment that the Lords weren't buying the defeat, partially because he'd let slip that he thought Toranaga was going to fight, so he had to step up and sell it. He and Toranaga knew each other so well that they didn't have to plan it, they just knew it was what was necessary in that moment... or at least that was my take on it. Either way, I cried harder the second time around watching it with you because I knew what was coming and what it meant.
