I think he's talking about Atlantis: The Lost Empire. He might be conflating it with Treasure Planet. I confuse those two a lot.

I agree that the introduction of Dakhor felt abrupt. I think the biggest issue is that while we have the Elantrians in our face the whole time, we never see them at full power until after Dakhor is already introduced. Once we see the Elantrians in action the monks stick out a lot less.

My biggest problem is the Elantrians make Dakhor look pathetic by comparison. Dakhor needs to sacrifice people to perform their powerful spells but Elantrians don't pay any price at all. It's too unbalanced and Dakhor just can't compete
