TRIBUTE TO MANI RATNAM Full Reaction

Revathy Nair

The ones of his you need to watch 1. Nayagan 2. Dhalapathy 3. Guru 4. Alaipayuthey I wouldn’t recommend Ravan because unless you are familiar with Mahabharatha, you wouldn’t get the references. Besides, I didn’t like the movie 😁

Karthik Gottipati

My Mani Rathnam picks would be: 1. Nayagan 2. Thalapathi 3. Mouna Ragam 4. Agni Natchathiram 5. Anjali 6. Roja 7. Bombay 8. Alaipayuthey 9. Kannathil Muthamittal

Akash Dhanasekar

Duuude Mani Ratnam in the 90’s was the man. All the titles above are good but for me the 2 movies that come to mind instantly form this director are 1. Roja(amazing songs) and 2. Bombay (again amazing songs) but both movies have an emotional pull for Indians cos Roja delves into Indo-Pak territory and Bombay into the 93’ Mumbai serial blasts. So yea, Cheers!

Movies and reasons to watch 1. Iruvar Arguably his best work. Allegory of evolution of Tamil politics. Extracted one of the finest capabilities of Mohanlal. Wonderful acting by Prakash Raj. Unlike the cinematography of his other movies, this is more about intensity and less about the beauty. And that is just marvellous. 2. Thalapathi- You get to see the ACTOR Rajnikanth. Great work by Mammootty. Modern reinterpretation of one of the important aspects of Mahabharatha(you don’t have to know that story for appreciating the movie) 3. Nayagan- “Godfatheresque” movie with a good script, elevated to greatness by Kamal Hassan. https://www.filmcompanion.in/features/tamil-features/every-mani-ratnam-film-ranked/

My favourites of Mani Ratnam 1. Roja (of the older lot) 2. Alai Payuthe (of the mid lot) 3. Ok Kanmani (of the latest) Good or Bad...all his movies have aged well. There isn’t a single shot that feels cringe. The music is always amazing...the locations, costumes are almost always grounded in reality.

Dil se is one of his weaker films. Mani Ratnam brings out the best in his actors, but SRK was not good in Dil Se. His best work is in Tamil. The dubbed versions of Roja and Bombay were huge hits in the north too.

Jaby you haven't seen the heart of India (Mani Ratnam)

AKvel

Idhayathai Thirudathe (Geethanjali in Telugu) was a massive romantic hit and I watched it multiple times back in the day

the sniff of my protein powder smells good

Please guys stop recommanding him nayagan. It too old. It cultural. technically is bad. Just recommend Jaby and achara films with ultimate duo mani ratnam and a.r, rahman. Iruvar and thalapathy is best way to start.

Add Kannathil Mutthamittal, Yuva & Anjali to this list

Taju Nisa

Anjali and Kannathil Muthamittal are testaments to using children effectively in movies.

Madhan

Nayagan is a classic and a milestone in Indian Cinema. Kannathil Muthamittal and Raavanan(Tamil) are technically brilliant ones. I think you have a DVD or Bluray copy of Kannathil Muthamital. The visuals in Raavanan are breathtaking. Iruvar can be enjoyed better only if you know the background of the real story behind it.

Dil Se is one of my favourite movies. But it's a movie that takes a while to digest. I don't know what you'll think of it because it is an unconventional film, and it seems most people either love it or hate it. But I trust you to not trash Mani Ratnam's work even if you're not feeling the story! (Contrary to some other people who very recently reviewed it 🤐) Bombay is a good movie and more easily accessible, I'm sure you'll like it. It talks about religious conflict, Jaby will probably have a lot to say in the review ^_^ I think I'll watch Roja right now! I've never seen it, as I'm still quite new to Tamil films. I saw Bombay last month only and it was my 20th Tamil film. Roja, Bombay and Dil Se make up Ratnam's "Terrorism Trilogy".

Also please react to the song SATRANGI RE before watching Dil Se 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

2022-02-04 17:54:35 I'll share this story.... 5years back,I've never watched Mani ratnam movie.. I used say like y this buzz about him, he's just another director. Then I was forced to watch Ravanan(Tamil Movie). i was in a negative mind before even starting this movie. The characters resembles ancient mythologies. His take and view on them, literally made me go wow at the end.. And making is amazing <3 which made me to watch his all other movies from then... Please start with "Ravanan"(tamil)
