I found the tamil version more goofy than scary. Maybe that's why it got so many down votes.

I have watched Manichithrathazhu more than 20 times. Not an exaggeration. It comes on cable once a month at least. And yet, today Achara spotted something I never spotted. Mohanlal's character's empathy during the song. The whole empathy situation would be very clear if you watched the whole movie. The point I am trying to make is, Manichithrathazhu IS NOT a movie that a die hard Mohanlal fan would put in a list to showcase Mohanlal skills. Not because he wasn't great in it, but because Manichithrathazhu holds a special place in average Malayalam cinema fan's hearts for other reasons(hope you will watch it). But yet you(Achara) spotted something so subtle that is so true the whole character, that it quite stunning. How deeply the director and writer conceived the story and how deeply Mohanlal imbibed it(like he always does). And about Rajnikanth having fun with that role, Rajnikanth pulls of evil more effectively and entertainingly(?) than we can imagine. Good catch there too

Yes...Jaby is right. The Tamil version was altered a lot to give Rajnikant more screen time. In both the Malayalam and hindi versions, Mohanlal and Akshay Kumar have a supporting role and only appear in the movie towards the second half. The main protagonist of the movie is the female character. And honestly this is a psychological thriller laced with humour, not a horror movie. This song is actually a big spoiler...wish you had watched the movie before watching the song.

Yes!! I watched this movie as a kid in a theatre in Kerala with my cousins. I have lost count on how many times I've rewatched it. I remember all the dialogues, even the tamil ones...it will always have a special place in my heart!

the sniff of my protein powder smells good

Jothika is not great of an actress. Remake in tamil film industry does not work. We will thumb down any remake. During this time rajanikanth film wasn't that great. fun fact: Telugu song in tamil verison. and Tamil song in the dubbed Telugu verison. The best part of this video, Rajnikanth's evilness which was captivating for the audience. People were barbaric and cruel during those time period. The whole world was cruel not just the Indian rajas. Even Vikings and Spartans. The world is still barbaric of what we are seeing last week.

Yea I have watched all three versions of the movie and the original(Malayalam) is the best of the lot, but just from an entertainment perspective I liked the Tamil version more or maybe because it has a lot of actors that I like i.e. Rajnikanth, Jyothika, Nayantara, Prabhu and vadivelu(not present in this video), if y’all have to check out the movie I would still suggest the original, but again Tamil version come on man it has Rajini in it 😊. Love and peace ✌️

Hi Jaby, watching the Raa Raa video without any context of story, I too found it weird that they had the guy dance with the crazy-lady in the present day without any motivation. But when I read the story, I found that the guy (Vineeth) is shown to be a dancer in the present day, whereas in the other versions, he's just a college professor. So maybe when you watch the whole movie, you don't find it so weird when he suddenly starts dancing with the girl in the video. Hope that helps!

I agree with jaby and achara. The music video is bad. I came to see jaby & achara reaction in Rajnikanth inhuman role. Both hindi verison and malayalam verison is directed by Priyadarshan. He is a legendary director in malayalam industry and made great films in hindi. Happy you were honest about it. The editing in this music video is bad. Jothika does over the top acting in dramatic movies.

Rajanikanth acting in this extraordinary.. The director in Tamil version, is going for showing the contrast between their normal vs flash-back characters.. You will know and appreciate this better when you watch the movie. The Hero playing the Kings role is a very good thought and addition to the Tamil version.

@Jaby, You have checked all the versions except the Kannada version. According to me this was the second best version of the movie and song behind the Malyalam version. Check it out here https://youtu.be/rrEZlbXRdak

There are many factors BTS which determined the choices. Yes the tamil one was more comical, because they took a horror - comedy route. Yes Jyotika is a over the top actress so it was just amped up. The reason the poster had only Rajinikanth (apart from the marketing reasons) was also because they didn't want to reveal the plot. Yes the movie is a remake but this came very later and without social media in those days not many ppl knew abt it. Title of Rajini movies are usually named after his character since Baadshah. He had his biggest failure in Baba and went to hiatus. Many ppl thought he was done. The era of Rajini is over. So when this poster came out, he was looking so fresh, hip and the title was Chandramukhi. So automatically the question was who is Chandramukhi? So when u see this song in the final act and Jyothika says Ra Ra with those eyes, ppl lost their minds, children started crying. The Ra Ra and lakalaka became pop culture references for years. Even now used in memes. Rajini in the 100 days celebration explicitly told, this is not my movie , this was Jyothika's movie and I have played a part in it. Given the time, situation that was a major statement. Jyotika actually reinvented herself as a serious actor after this movie. Yes this is the most comical and over the top. 70% movie is actually comedy, powered by comedy superstar Vadivelu. Life-long careers were riding on it. They wanted to make it as commercial as possible.

I think some of the concerns, like "motivation behind Vineeth's dancing", the perception of Rajinikanth being cold and aloof etc. would be addressed for anyone who has watched the full movie, although I would've had similar thoughts had I watched the music video alone. Then again, I am biased in favour of this movie because it was, at the time, Rajinikanth's "comeback" movie after a commercial disaster in his previous movie Baba (which also I liked). I was 11 at the time, and this movie gave me nightmares (then again, a lot of horror movies did at that age). I will agree though, that this movie has nothing on the Malayalam version, which was awesome. I believe it was the original.

This was the film that used to give me chills.. During vacation to my grandmother house every summer where all my cousins too come and one of my cousin watched this film and told about this film to us. From then I wanted to watch this film. I still remember the day where I went to nearby town where this film was still playing after a month of my vacation. I watched this film alone without my friends or family members. I was actually fearing till the end of movie. I used to have nightmares everynight for few months after watching that film. At one point ppl started believed that the story was picked from real incidents Chandramukhi was tamil movie which dubbed into telugu with the same name. Whatever it may be this movie is gem. I still fear watching this movie lone. Kudos to Jyothika in this film who acted as Chandramukhi

I think the Malayalam version is directed by Fazil who is Fahad's father.

Karthikeyan Velusamy

In rajinikanth film its all about "RAJINIKANTH", so every part of the film he will be emphasied.

Hey a jaby where is the Kannada version.. I can’t believe you missed the best version. Kannada version has amazing actors and music. please watch it...

Ranjan Indiran

I LOVED it when jaby went "she looks nuts!" PRICELESS

Ranjan Indiran

And Jaby in cinematic logic we need to look at the chronological sequence, you must know that your viewing sequence does not matter. You've had the luxury of seeing 3, as a reviewer, you need to recognize the chronology.

Hameed M

Hell no this version was wayyy scarier especially when they add the light to her eyes that gave me nightmares and still I’m watching this at night alone and as soon as those eyes showed up I turned around to see if anyone was behind me 😂😂

Though the film is Tamil, the song is in Telugu. Chandramuki is a Telugu dancer in Tamil version and a Tamil dancer in Telugu and Malayalam versions.
