Yes! Shobana won the National award for this role. She is also a highly trained classical dancer irl. Vidya Balan not being a trained dancer as far as I know, did an amazing job in the Hindi version as well.

Guys start with this film and see th evolution of its remakes.....some areas much better esp production budget sets etc but in other ways not so much. This film is sheer talent skill on show by the actors. Def a must watch

I don’t know whether you will read this comment but here goes The movie is about Multiple Personality Disorder. Shobhana is a trained classical dancer as well as a teacher. And she was part of the editing team for this song and suggested the cuts to make the dancing look better. Vidya did great but it’s a joy watching Shobhana dance. She is the niece of the dancing/acting legends Lalitha-Padmini-Ragini sisters also called Travancore sisters. The male dancer Sridhar is an actor and dancer from Kannada film industry. This song’s highlight is the bit where they dance together. For me, this was more believable coz she is thinking of him as her lover and would definitely not see the killing in her dream sequence (not just because I am from Kerala). Since you noticed the little peepholes Achara, it is actually a real palace. The peepholes are there so that the female members of the palace can watch the court entertainment in the early days. They just strategically used it here. I've been to the palace and took my fangirl photograph in that dance floor. Although much of it is closed for public view because it is ruining with time. The movie in Malayalam version feels like reading a book in my humble opinion.

hi Achara, not sure if someone mentioned it already but in south Indian languages 'ZH' is actually sounds like L/La. there three L sounds in Tamil so there are variations and Tamil should be written as Tamizh. this movie name sounds like Mani-chithra-thaal. Although this is the malayalam movie, the song is in Tamil (because the "ghost" is from Tamil Nadu) it was a way to differentiate the normal and paranormal. Rajini after a long hiatus made a comeback with the tamil version of this movie and its probably the scariest ..you should definitely check it out.. and the dancer is the same in tamil and hindi versions Vineeth who is a trained classical dancer but also was a very popular hero in the 90's

I am so happy u reacted to this..this is one of my favourite malayalam movies. All actress who played this role have received national award and there is constant fight on which movie and performance is the better one😉. . i being a malayali i am biased for the malayalam "original" version😎. It is not a simple ghost or reincarnation story it is a psychological thriller/horror. I would be so happy if u watch it. The malaysia version is more subtle and does not just focus on the horror element. .i can go on and on about this movie...i might have watched this more than 20 times and each time you find something new that you missed earlier..i am.glad u enjoyed the music review😍
