Don't worry about the animation seeming somewhat different from episode to episode (apart from the pilot ;P): The different storyboard artists styles are deliberately not changed too much, so depending on who did a particular episode, it might look a bit different than others.

Yeah, get used to the inconsistent animation, it's one of the major criticisms of the show, at least in terms of valid points. It does even out as it goes on, but early season one is pretty bad about it.

The third episode is a bit infamous for having such different and exaggerated style. It was one of the earliest episodes boarded. While different storyboarders have slightly different styles, it's not normally quite that notable.

Yeah, my usual breakfasts alternate from typical eggs/bacon/toast, to bagel sandwiches, to burritos. Waffles and pancakes are great, but they're not something I have for breakfast often.

Glad you're enjoying it so far. You're in for a long haul, but it's gonna be a lot of fun! The later seasons get a lot of praise, but it's easy to forget how cutesy this show is in the early going. Particularly the next two episodes. They're kinda famous among the fandom. It's hard to gage how I progressed in my attitude toward the characters, considering I effectively watched season 1 way out of order, but I'm enjoying watching you get a feel for them.

The breakfast thing is varied by state too, where we have pancakes and sweets, savory plays a big part too. For me it’s pancakes with peacan syrup, eggs and sausage. Our cereals though, those are just dessert lol.

Just a note for you, Steven is not thirteen yet, he’s twelve. He has a birthday episode later on in the series that revealed his age. Not a big spoiler, though. As for the animation style, S1 has a lot of inconsistencies at times. It’s still the show, just animators finding their footing!

Amazon UK still carries those Time Out bars under the name "Time Out Wafers" with the wafers still inside if you're interested. Also, episode 3 looks so different and exaggerated because it was one of the first episodes to be storyborded. Many shows have different storyboarders with slightly different styles, but early season one of SU is infamous for how inconsistent the animation is.

Each episode looking different is just a thing Steven Universe does. The creator gave the storyboard artists freedom to draw mostly how they wanted for the episode. Sometimes it is very noticeable but does get more uniform towards the end. You are right with Steven's age. Amethyst is the closest in age to Steven but her and the other gems are all adults. I'm really loving these reactions so far! I know this series is going to be a blast!

I believe Steven is canonically 12 or 13. The gems are much older. Centuries. Also breakfast like that while common in the US, is not an everyday breakfast. That's more like a special weekend breakfast. Every day breakfast is more like eggs, toast, oatmeal or cereal, maybe with sausage or avocado, or sometimes rice.

I totally get what you mean about the candy bars. For me it's two: First one is Fifth Avenue, which was my dad's favorite candy bar and we would split one when I went with him on errands. They're still around but you don't see them very often; whenever I do see one I have it. The other is a chocolate bar named Chocolate Santander Sunset Banana, which was expensive but the tastiest chocolate I've ever had. Rich, high-quality dark chocolate with little pieces of candied banana. It was discontinued like a decade ago and I still miss it occasionally.

One of the great things about Steven Universe is that pretty much all of the questions that come to mind as you watch (including pretty much every one you've had so far) DOES eventually get answered, even if it's many seasons down the road. It seems so episodic and kids-showish at first, but the details are well thought out.

Gems are quite old. They were created when an asteroid smacked into the Earth and formed the moon and crystal gems at the same time. These 3 Crystal gems (plus Steven's mother) were formed on Earth while the rest of the gems they are fighting were formed on the moon. The moon gems need to defeat the Crystal Gems on Earth in order to colonize. Fortunately most of the Moon Gems arent more intelligent than animals. Dont get too attached to the Earth's Crystal Gems, sometime in the first or second season one of them is killed (but comes back at the end of the show)

Be glad you get to experience the show in a normal way, CN screwed with the schedule massively when it was coming out. A couple times a year they'd drop like 8 episodes in a week then piss off for 6 months

The answer to just about EVERY question you're asking is NO, we can't tell you. This would be a spoiler, that would be a spoiler, that would definitely be a spoiler! The show is deliberately vague on purpose on a lot of stuff early on, to keep the questions flooding your brain.

Also, on that note, don't look anything up! Even stuff as simple as age could definitely lead to spoilers. When the showrunners want you to know something, they'll tell you. As for his age here, while we don't really know, it's most certainly not 13. The internet lied to you. Just trust your intuition and the acting of the characters.

just a rule of thumb, the show's based around having to figure things out in time. it's very much build like a mystery show with you the viewer only ever being given as much info as Steven has (since the show is from his POV) so whenever you find yourself asking "what about this, would this be a spoiler to know?" most likely: yeah. even small stuff, it's all purposefully unclear at the start. you'll get most of your answers if you just keep watching :3c (you'll get answers more quickly if you always react to 3 eps per reaction, but that's just me having silly little thoughts hmmmmm....)

In Steven’s defense ie. his maturity (or lack thereof) instead of being raised by two human parents, he’s being raised by three magical crystal women… and Greg. So him being behind 3-5 years developmentally makes a bit more sense in that context lol
