I really wish people would stop pulling Entrapta's hair. As for chips, I'm pretty sure that Etheria's the only planet Horde Prime's done this to. Catra mentioned that he was doing something new on Etheria, and something that would hurt: stripping everyone of their free will would definitely do that. He's probably been fine until now with either turning planets to glass from orbit or just subjugating their populations the old fashioned way. He also didn't start chipping people until the BFS freed Catra. It's all about the malice this time.

The VAs seem to have done good work in undermining the execs where they could. Same thing with them nixing the idea of Catra dying during Save the Cat, only to have AJ making it obvious that's what was happening without anyone saying a word.

I think it makes sense that Catra would be the one to admit it first. After all, Adora has been selfless to a fault for the entire show, always putting the needs and safety of others first without ever thinking about her own wants and needs. Meanwhile, ever since Save The Cat, Catra has been learning to express herself better. I think the main reason Catra hasn't yet confessed her feelings to Adora personally is that she is afraid that Adora won't reciprocate - not because she thinks Adora doesn't feel the same way, but because Adora's Martyr complex is blocking her from expressing herself. And Catra, with her gigantic abandonment issues, is terrified of Adora rejecting her if she confesses to her.

It didn’t surprise me at all that Catra was the first one to admit their feelings. Acknowledging that you have romantic feelings for someone means acknowledging that there’s something you want for just yourself and not for anyone else. That goes against everything Adora has been conditioned to believe about herself, whereas Catra has always been self-interested.

Actually, I’d argue that most, if not all, couples/duos in this show are somewhat made up of an Adora and a Catra. That look on Melog's face as soon as Catra turns around for a second is so priceless. They're just like "okay, screw this - wtf is wrong with you?" Everyone could use an oversized therapy alien in their life. Also, the frame of Catra flying off Melog's back is one of the funniest things ever.

Catra and Adora both have a similarly off-kilter reaction to "need" vs "want." But Adora's gotten to the point now where she won't allow herself to need anyone, and flat-out says that it doesn't matter what she wants. One problem with being able to turn into a unstoppable powerhouse is that it's really hard for anyone to get you to stop being a complete dumb-ass.

Ok so two important things I have to say: first, that was a definite romantic “I love you” from Glimmer and I’m here for it! If you pay attention to Glimmer and Bow’s relationship and interactions throughout the series and mostly through seasons 4 & 5 you’ll see small hints of their affection (like how glimmer hold and brushed Bow’s hand before Adora & him sneaked off to beast island, or how Bow was overprotective of Glimmer even when he was angry with her on the planet with the fuel crystals… you get the idea). I recommend that you pay attention to that when rewatching the show. Second, I don’t think there are other planets with chipped people on them because it was shown at the beginning of the season that Horde Prime was a conquer and a destroyer and he himself tells them how he erased races & worlds. So I think he discovered that he can control people only when he needed to use Catra, who was not one of his “brothers” because he didn’t make her. Which is also why you never see chipped people except the ones from Etheria. As usual, hope this helps! 😁

Yeah Catra can generally read Adora pretty well, except when it comes to how Adora feels about her, for one it conflicts with Catra's self worth issues. Also not helped by how Adora likely never fully delved into her own feeling on the matter, always busy with other things, never taking time to think about her own feelings and desires.

As far as I remember it wasn't stated that mara was the first first ones she-ra, quite the opposite it is stated that she was the last before Adora, that the first ones coopting of She-ra was an established thing by the time Mara takes over the mantle, just that under her time the project on Aetheria came to ahead and necessitated mara's sacrifice in order to stop the activation.

That and making Adora the center of her universe has been her thing since early childhood, so it's not a huge leap from that to wanting to be with her, especially now that she is in a better mental state, so her possessiveness has gotten better and her need to compete with her has subsided, now that she has been free for a while from SW pitting them against each other to build up Adora at her expense. She can want Adora without feeling trapped in her shadow, and I just realised how that expression works with Shadow Weaver's name, she literally wove Adora's shadow in which Catra self worth struggled for so long.

Catra and Glimmer have been paralleled through a good chunk of the show, so that makes a lot of sense. As well as in s4 it was Bow and Adora arguably contending with both Glimmer and Catra. Plus both Adora and Bow tend to give more in relationships, the latter even vocalising how much work it is for him to always be the one to put work into their relationships.

That wake up call is important, it's frustrating when a show is like yeah noble self sacrifice is the only true way and their feelings and their life don't matter. It's like how every time I see a lesbian character either coming to the realisation that she is in for a lot with how her society is, or is feeling like she won't ever find someone, i just want an older queer woman, usually imagined as a cafe owner thanks to Bloom into you, to just hold them and tell them it'll get better/there are others like her.

I think one of the clones did the same thing earlier in the season too (might've been Wrong Hordak, come to think of it)...Mermista as well. I mean...convenient hand hold, I guess, but like...don't pull peoples hair? Just one of those things that maybe bugs me more than it needs to. (edit: actually, no. It's such a gross way of trying to demonstrate power over someone. It would've been satisfying if her ambulatory, super-strong hair had taken the opportunity to pop Prime's head off like a cork)

That part has always been a little fuzzy: we know three things: There have been many She-ras, Mara was a First One and the last before the 1000-year gap, and then Adora (also a First One). How long ago the First Ones arrived, who the previous She-ras were and when they started being First Ones is very much guesswork from too-little information.

A true and honest thank you for creating this reaction series. She-ra gave me the worst post-show depression I've ever had, and none of my friends would be into a show like this, so watching you experience and enjoy the story has been a high point of every week and helped me cope with finishing the show. I'll definitely be staying subbed for the other awesome shows you cover, it's so important to know other adults enjoy cartoons like this. As for ending the show, do yourself a favor afterward and watch Five by Five Takes "How She-ra Gives Us Hope". That analysis video made me cry harder than the series did its SO GOOD. Can't wait for the finale!!! Cheers!!

I think it's the forehead kiss that makes it seem less cut and dry than the cast and prior episodes tried to make it. That's a pretty platonic gesture if you're going to include a kiss...but it's also not the right couple, or place in the show, for a grander physical gesture. If they were asking the animators to figure out a way of hedging their bets and then leave it to the cast, the animators hedged just a bit farther in the other direction. Still, it seems after the fact that Nate is happy with the BFS being two couples, and even if I didn't already agree, that'd be good enough for me in this case. Also, the framing of the shot would've either required Bow to bend waaaay over to get to Glimmer's lips, or for her to basically tackle him :D

This episode is such and an emotional roller coaster, they are not pulling any punches with this finale. Mara saying: "You are worth more than what you can give to other people. You deserve love too", I've never heard a line that's so satisfying yet gut punching at the same time. Super relatable too. Same for "Adora doesn’t want me, not like I want her." So tragic. I hearit struck a chord with a lot of viewers.

Being able to convey SO much just through her voice is a true talent, and ends up missing from so much VA work (especially when celebrity casting is involved); her ability to shift from heroically dignified to deeply emotional to bizarrely loopy to snort-laughingly dorky is sorta mind-blowing. There's a fantastic video of her and AJ reenacting That Scene from the finale over Zoom that's a true sight to behold if you haven't come across it. Spring break only lasts this week and then the final quarter starts...though I'm getting the sense that I'll need to find an excuse to not be in the office next Monday. Not sure I'll be able to watch part 2 of the finale over my lunch break and then go back to appearing stable and professional immediately after :D

Mind you, the "one week" thing is really more from a staff POV - students all toddled off a week or two earlier. The rest of us still need to stick around and...supposedly...do "work" :D Pro-tip: As long as you only use it very rarely, "food poisoning" always makes for a good out. God, I really wish we could get a movie. Even just one with the budget of, like, Legend of Korra, would be delicious. It could focus on them rescuing Angella...and maybe also getting the robot Entrapta promised to retrieve from Beast Island. Just as long as there' no unnecessary character conflict thrown in. Catra and Adora suffered too much to have some asshole screw things up for the sake of "drama." I got out of the classical biz years and years ago, though. 19 years of training and gigging and orchestra auditions turned out to be as much as I could deal with (I finally realized that I was just forcing myself to do a thing I didn't like doing anymore because I'd conditioned myself to expect that of myself). My full-time job, with benefits and which I love going to every day even after 25 years, is a *much* better fit :D Don't think too much about how those years add up. It depresses me just looking at them... :O

That would be so great, Angela was such a big loss, and even if I truly think her death was necessary for Glimmer to get some character's growth, having her back now that it's done would be so relieving ... I just wish she could see how Glimmer became even more of an amazing person (I love her) and she could reunite with Micah. Yeah agree about Catra and Adora, if anything they need therapy in that movie lmao (Perfuma is already Catra's psychologist anyway). Or a Mara movie would have been so great also. Oh wow okay so you really have quite the experience in the field !! Well that's good you got out of a thing that made you unhappy, sometimes it's a long road before being honest with yourself, letting go and finding your true calling - that's amazing you still like your job 25 years later (one cool way to look at the number :p), even when you have to show up during students holidays !

I didn't realize this until something you said in the last video. But I originally saw Adora leaving Glimbow behind so she could focus and do it herself (because that's like what she always thinks she needs to do) but now... I think Adora knew she couldn't control She-Ra the way she needed and she didn't want her best friends to watch her die. That was a goodbye 😭
