NIIIIICE!!… and the fun begins all over again

Oh darn, I missed the livestream. Sadge face.

If I was about I'd have said "you'll understand why he's stuck in the books once you've read them" - it gets... complex, to put it mildly. So many plots interweaving and converging and separating (a bit like real life) to the point he's now trying to figure out how to get it all back together again ready for the final part of the story - and just can't figure it out without being contrived. Oh, and the books aren't always better then the show. The show does some things really, really well. Even George admitted he actually prefers a few details and choices in retrospect. And certain characters are different personality wise too - Tyrion is less charming, for example (Peter Dinklage is sometimes too good at what he does). And the books are really, really long. And dense. And yet... very readable. It'll take you a long while, but you will lose many hours to a reading session and afterwards wonder where the day went because time flies past.

As for the "all the Stark children are Wargs" - sort of. Most aren't the Wargs of legend, not being able to completely control their Direwolf. Its more of a subtle affinity with their beast and the occasional "wolf dream". All bar Sansa, who treats her Direwolf more like a pet then a companion - she dreams of the South and being a Princess (and later Queen) and has distain for the North and its cold and 'backward' ways. She's the only one excited to leave Winterfel. She's upset by the death of Lady, but gets over it pretty quickly all things considered and after a while stops even thinking about her. Bran of course is the strongest Warg, becoming one fully and being able to control Summer (and, as you noticed, Hodor) and sees visions as well as strong Wolf Dreams. Jon has wolf dreams semi-regularly, and Ghost is practically his shadow when they are together - no commands are necessary, Ghost knows what to do (even if Jon is sometimes baffled by his behaviour it always turns out that Ghost knows best - in some ways Ghost is the Warg, some fans like to suggest). Arya also has wolf dreams that get stronger now her Direwolf is roaming free. Its unclear how strong Robb's warging ability is since he's not a POV character and doesn't even appear much - he's talked about more then anything. But Greywind is much like Ghost is to Jon - always with him, always watching his back, running alongside Robb into battle like a wingman. And let's not forget little Rickon. He's also not a POV character, and is very young (4 or 5, I think?). He becomes increasingly feral without his parents around, barely talking and growling at people who bother him. Shaggydog (yes, he named his Direwolf that - and its a reference to the term "shaggy dog story" meaning something you can't believe is true and has no real point to it) is also feral, refuses to be caged and causes trouble regularly - but follows Summer's lead when required, suggesting that either Bran is also somewhat in control of him too or Summer is).

I've heard the audio books are good, but the narrator died a couple of years ago (he also played the Pyromancer who made the Wildfire). He also supposedly pronounced a few names unusually and can be difficult to listen to if you read or heard them a different way before. But I recommend reading the books. At least the first one at this stage. The seasons and books don't line up completely and I'm not sure if the season you're on is the end of Clash of Kings or the beginning of Storm of Swords. Heck, it might even have a bit of Feast For Crows in it, now that I think about it... The chronology of the show and books doesn't line up exactly the same either since they try to get each main actor into episodes with not a big gap. For example, I think, you don't hear from Theon for an entire book whereas the show didn't pause his story at all.

I’m glad you guys are getting back to GoT again. I felt your pain during the red wedding (and afterward). I won’t give any spoilers, but like people always say, no one is safe in this show. Certainly there are more difficult episodes to come down the line, but plenty of high-points as well, so I hope you don’t get deterred. Season 4 is one of the best seasons too, so I’m excited.

Season 4 please!?? Let’s go!! You’re just getting warmed up…

I both read and listened to audiobook while driving. I had no idea he played the pyromancer! That’s so cool! Are you referencing how he pronounced Brienne as Bryeeeene? Made my eye twitch every time. I liked his voice overs though and overall great narrator
