Man these Delta's sure like ice with their vodka!

All of those periods where those Delta's seem to have perfect records really makes me wonder if they actually did...certainly there must be many casualties never recorded

Why it took them 2 decades to understand two crew method, and doing the high tempo op? Is it possible that the previous reactors were not that efficient, and that was the reason, it was not just about the crew? And VM-4 reactor really revolutionized there SSBN force. Aaron, is it possible that you able to go into a little bit detail of VM-4 reactors?

Thanks for the great brief Jive. Minor note: when talking about throw weight of the missile complex they probably mean warhead bus weight to rated range, not excess buoyancy of the missile underwater.

Really enjoy these lectures Jive, I would like to see more cutaway drawings and in construction pictures with you going through more of the design aspect of the sub. If you have the info of course. Maybe something to roll into the later Delta lectures would be a side-by-side comparison between the different versions etc.

subbrief

You are right. Good catch. I'll make a note of that in the Delta-II Brief.

Curious about the Mike and Oscar classes now.

Man, I didn't know russia had SSBNs and fitting drydocks in 1798 ! Advanced stuff right there ! (40:14 ;)

US Naval intelligence when they learned of the missile range. "What 9000 there is no way that can be right !"

subbrief

not sure what the question is. The single-warhead missile range of the SS-N-8 Mod 2 is ~9000 km.

The 1 ton throw weight you mentioned, refers to the RV/bus on top of the missile body...an SLBM weighs considerably more than a Mk-84
