I suggest that any early Delta retirements, were caused by John Walker had sent over exact defects per that showed USSR which subs were not worth keeping in service. Once other platforms were coming online these un-fixable units were canned. Same thought for the prop replacements in 1983. Either the first of the Toshiba IP theft and selling to USSR props installed... Or, the standard 5 blade on that sub were so bad (per John Walker), they found some better machined 5 blade props. Based on Jive intel, if there were safety or other systemic defects in the systems in early retired subs, would be noted. I smell some John Walker... :) Yes, understand that treaties have kicked in. Bet the “Walker subs” would be chosen first to be retired.
