Wow, really? That's both insane and oddly clever.

I interviewed John Craven....In a discussion about deterrence, he related a story about the USS George Washington. He started by asking, "What do you do if your enemy fields an overwhelming weapon you have no defense for?" He answered, "You attack immediately." Which made sense. So what did they do to keep the USSR from that course of action? This: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/revell-renwal-85-7820-uss-george-washington-ssbn-598--234273 Which looks nearly identical to this: http://www.motionmodels.com/ships/sub/k420.html Speaking of "insane and oddly clever...."

HA HA - I had one of those toys, Used it in my bathtub when I was like 6. It used a bicarbonate of soda pill to affect ballast. Did put the ballast plug on the bottom on the real sub. Moral of the story: they were stealing our technology even back then.

Funny, I have a HobbyBoss model of the Type 091, a toy based on a submarine based on a toy.

I am deeply disturbed and intrigued by this info, lol. That's freaking genius, yet so simple and easy, yet clever and... and... I don't have words for this. lol.

The scale of the toy submarine and the real submarine are very different; I assume the reynold's number of the fluid flow over the hull would be quite different.
