Great telling of this nail-biting situation and what a relief it ended well. I'm wondering if there could be a sensor installed in the cockpit warning that the pitot tubes are still covered. It's crazy to me that a multi-million dollar aircraft's fate can lie in the smallest little things like an plugged pitot tube, something so preventable. Even with the red-orange flags, it was missed. Was there any followup with the captain for a re-training as far as awareness on the walkaround?

Thanks Julie! I can imagine that some kind of sensor would be possible to put in the pitot tubes, though maybe the fear is that water would cause false alarms, or that there would be erroneous activations of the sensors? I did read something about the Captain getting in serious trouble with the airline, but I'm not sure what corrective action was taken for him. Glad you enjoyed the video :)
