The video in question isn’t necessarily the making of the album but a visual accompaniment to the album. When creating this album with Kenny Beats, Denzel wanted to make an animated short film for the project, using a different animation style for each song. Like one song uses 3D animation, one uses robot chicken style stop motion animation, another uses a black and white hand drawn animation that homages Junji Itos art style, etc. It’s really cool

Your growth as a hip-hop head is so apparent. I loved seeing you enjoy the absolute fuck out of this.

Paul Salvador Estrada

The way you reacted to this project i Hope "Run the jewels" is on your list. Picture this sound from guys in their 40s.

Yarden

I agree 100%, On his TABOO review he mentioned initially hoping for that aggressive sound Denzel had on his Bulls on Parade cover and RTJ definable have that aggression. Killer Mike is in my opinion one of the most aggressive rappers without compromising really deep and meaningful lyrics.

I have to say Bob, you've made a denzel curry fan very happy today!🙏🏾👏🏾

Psykopomp

shit i just realized bob will get to hear 'Palmolive' on Bandana. Killer Mike, Freddie Gibbs, Pusha T on Madlib production. NASTY track.

the pausing right before both choruses on DIET was killing me

Rasha Rahman

You gotta listen to some DMX if you wanna hear some more raw grungy rap vocals hes the king of it RIP

Plus RTJ has worked with Zack de la Rocha a couple times, definitely a good comparison.

Unlocked is so dope. A good thing to listen after this, maybe on your own (tho I'm sure we'd all love to see a live reaction), is Denzel's 13LOOD 1N + 13LOOD OUT MIXX which can be found on his Youtube Channel. It's 13 minutes of pure Lunacy. (Maybe add it onto the end of Unlocked so you can finish a run)

Lil Mac

Yeah this album/ep (it's considered an EP but it's long enough and good enough that I think you can call it either) is incredible. You can really hear the production influence from MF DOOM with all these old vocal samples, it's great. Another personal note I want to add is this album has one of my favorite bars of all time "my bitch bad like battle rappers that make albums" I know that line won't mean much to you, but I used to be heavily into battle rappers/the battle rap community (battle rapping is when two rappers take turns rapping written disses at each other, with judges determining the winner after a couple rounds or so) and as talented as they are, man, they just CANNOT make a good album. I don't know what the deal is, maybe having a beat throws them off, maybe they just don't understand album structure, but they consistently make pretty bad stuff, so when I first heard that line, I laughed so hard which I rarely do to music

as you like rock and now rap listen 2 this :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZY4ywyFXdik

Yeah... I still haven't figured out the best way to manage that. I'm pausing with how I edit in mind. It's probably better to let it drop into the chorus first? Or maybe right before the last line or two completes.

A lot of DMX influence on this.

Yo you definitely gotta do Vince Staples! He’s energy is much different than Denzel, but the lyrics and message are very similar. Summertime ‘06 is a really diverse album with loads of bangers. Also his newest Self titled album, is very similar to Unlocked. It’s short and sweet, and fully produced by Kenny Beats. You can definitely do a double video day like you did with this!

but at the very least, summertime would be a really good place to start with vince staples.
