INTRODUCING THE KRISPODDCAST!!! (ON ICE). If you dont care about this podcast's topic - at least listen to the beginning where i explain this podcast series' purpose and name choice lmao.

Per this post's title today I'll be sharing my J O U R N E Y as a figure collector which began at the beginning of this year. From the timeline of getting into collecting, to my general thoughts on the anime figure collecting hobby as a whole. I’ve never bought figures before (never had enough space) how to you keep them clean/dusted, and how often?

If I don’t like looking at it, why would I want it? Lol. I’m no figure collector, I just own two nendroids. I just need more hot guy figures because as you said a lot of figures are female! But also did you see the new DMMD figure????

SHIT i shoulda done a section on dusting cause it’s a highkey CHORE LMAO. I typically only have time to dust about once a month and it basically just falls in line with me dusting the entire room I keep them in. I use a makeup brush for the figures themselves and then use a swifter duster for each shelf which involves me taking everything off where its kept and then having to put it all back afterwards. That’s another thing highly influencing my lack of enthusiasm to expand too cause more figs means 1. Finding more space and 2. Having to dust more lmao I don’t know how these massive full room collectors do it cause that shit would be a NIGHTMARE

LMAO IVE NEVER SEEN THEM BEFORE the more you know XD EXACTLY like I get wanting physical representation of something you love but i couldn’t just get anything I have STANDARDS lmaolmao I totally forgot to mention DMMD figures as a whole cause they’re really the only brand that gets consistently high quality figures even to this day. The one with koujaku and aoba?

@KrisPNatz Mhm exactly, the more you know! I’m so ready for more 18+ guy figures lol. 😂😂. Yes we gotta have standards so they can make them even better! THEY ARE. I don’t hate DMMD (and I’m enjoying watching you play) but give me figures of other BL games or books. And yeah that one! It looked hot but I’m just not that big on DMMD to get it haha.

As someone who has been building a figure collection for a few years now, these insights were greatly appreciated. Also, another tip I'd offer, based on my own experiences as a UK resident, is that you want to not just watch shipping costs, but potential tax/VAT/import duty, because that can stack up. Like shipping it will vary depending on location, but if there are charges and are given the option, always try to pay upfront. There are few things more frustrating that having the parcel you're expecting held hostage by customs, where in you will not only have to pay up potentially more to cover duty and tax, but you'll also have to cough up extra for a 'handling fee' to whichever service will be delivering it.

yea absolutely same like we could always use some v a r i e t y both in series getting figures and the amount/type of figures for existing properties. Like junjou only has nendos which is hilarious in its own right lmao

Indeed, depends on where you live in terms of what the point of value a parcel has to be marked as to incur those extra costs to import, but if you're buying nice figures that quite pricey anyway that extra cost can mount up. I've had additional woes since Brexit because we no longer fall under EU agreements and rates, so I have to weigh my options when buying from the US especially. Often the tax on the item and the shipping together from the likes of RightStuf exceeds the cost of the actual item. That's why I appreciate having a few new sites recommended that I can browse through that might be more cost effective, so thank you for that.

YUP. Give us figures of obscure anime/manga! But honestly I just want hot guy figures lol. I’m mad I missed the Ten Count couple figure 😭 At least they got nendos! Although I am surprised it doesn’t have at least one figure haha

youre welcomeeee ive SCOURED so many places to collect my list so im happy to share so others dont have to waste the time i have LMAO. i have run into shipping issues where it exceeds the cost of the item too but usually cause i refuse to do seamail and the alt is usually fedex/dhl and theyre always expensive even if fast

The money I would’ve PAID for a Deku and Bakugou bunny figure. Would it have broken the internet and made a lot of people mad? Yes, but it would be absolutely worth it! Idk if we’ll ever get bunny figures for males that aren’t from BL (I’m not complaining that there are some) but we can dream. I feel like figure manufacturers underestimate just how much money female fans are prepared to drop for their favorite male characters

Yes those courier rates for airmail in whatever form can be steep, especially since you want to have cover in case anything happens in transit. It's the literal price we pay I suppose. Also, because you mentioned the whole saga that occurred around this release, I actually have the Fruba Yuki and Kyo figures. I had no idea about the preorder debacle as I got them through RightStuf without any issue, so it seems that Funimation dropped the ball there. Really sorry to hear how many people were disappointed and let down, since they are very nicely made and were reasonably priced. Happy to share photos if you ever want to 'review' other peoples collections for fun.

yeaaa its the only store i heard that had an issue its such an anomaly it seems cause ive heard of stores being out of stock/losing orders but fuckin up a preorder seems like a HUGE failure on their part o.o OUUU maybe ill do collection "reviews" for a patreon only stream in the future lmao ive seen other figure creators do them and i wouldnt be as judgemental or dramatic lmfao but i love seeing other peoples collections that could be fun

Very odd for sure, best to just let Funimation stick with their own products since it seems they don't have established/reliable connections to import things. But yes, if you do decide to do collection 'reviews' I'd be happy to send images. Appreciate the notion of it being more fun sharing that serious scrutiny, even though I'm sure I could be rightly judged for some of my character choices. ^^;
