Dinosaurs was definitely gutsy with it. They tackled sexual harassment, war (as you guys mentioned), weed use, martial problems, puberty, sexual identity, etc. I didn't even realize until maybe around Arresred Development's premier that Fran was Jessica Walter

Introduced my wife to Dinosaurs when it hit Disney+ early 2021. started out as a begrudging "alright I'll watch my husband's silly dinosaur show" but by the end she dug it and was constantly surprised by the sociopolitical themes in so many episodes, particularly 'What Sexual Harris Meant'. Also as a win we now get to sing "we wish you a happy Fridge Day so come in and buy paint" to each other every Christmas

Re- cocktail weenies. I had a roommate who i didn't like very much, and she was trying to plan a party that was going to happen in our apartment even though I had to get up at 4am the next morning. She wanted to serve the lil cocktail weenies to the impending horde of party-comers, and I am a professional cook, so she asked me if I knew how to make "that sauce" they have. I wasn't quite paying attention and was trying to just brush her off and found myself blurring "I'm pretty sure you just heat them up and they Release Their Own Sauce". This isn't true and I was so checked out that I got to basically listen to this sentence unroll in real time and react to it the exact same way as Terrible Roommate. I think one of the sauces is like, grape jelly and ketchup and brown sugar.

Always love the shout-out to the alphabet streets in Portland named for Simpsons characters. When I lived there, I'd always get a little burst of joy when I'd walk past Terwilliger Street. Most people could get that Flanders, Lovejoy, or even Kearney St. were connected, but I knew I was in the presence of a true fan if they also understood the significance of Terwilliger Street. For a while, I lived on Everett (just before Flanders) and used to tell people that C. Everett Coop's depiction in "Bye Bye Nerdie" was named after my street. No one IRL appreciated that joke, but maybe you all might.

I think all the woman in the bathtub scenes were because Pretty Woman was the biggest movie in the world when they were working on this season.

I'm imagining an alternate dimension with Rob and Shmendry hosting a Not A Cartoon! podcast with stuff like Dinosaurs, Mr. Show, Flight of the Conchords, Fraggle Rock, etc. Plus their Not A Cartoon! Movies like Naked Gun, Kung Fu Hustle, Shoot Em' Up, Muppet stuff, etc. Also their Patreon is more successful.

Not only is there a street that shares a last name with him, there's also the Terwilliger Curves, a previously unsafe stretch of I-5 in Portland that was known for being as dangerous as Sideshow Bob himself.

The Dean and Jerry "reunion" is a myth. They had several public appearances together beforehand. It just may have been the most widely seen one. JL's archivist Bob Furmanek gave a presentation about it at MoMA. I also have to say "Black Windower" is at the very top of my favorites—the level of direction wasn't beaten again until Silverman's "Devil and Homer Simpson".

Everytime you mention It’s Gary Shandling’s Show I turn off the podcast and listen to the theme so I can get it out of my head. This time though, I found an interview with Co-Creator Alan Zweibel. I was happy to go down this rabbit hole of their friendship: https://youtu.be/nmGaxVeDnSo

I must confess, I was actually expecting Dinosaurs to be your April Fool's Day podcast this year because of this episode and where it was landing in the schedule, but Mr. Show is fine. It's pretty big, I guess. I think after Cape Feare, this is my favorite Sideshow Bob episode. I like the murder mystery and that he isn't just out to get revenge on Bart. The shower joke always surprised me as I would have expected Groening to veto it, but maybe the rationale was always that Krusty is definitely the type of hack that would make such a crack. Plus, Selma gets laid in this one. Good for her.

Regarding the discussion of the sex appeal of a young Frank Sinatra, some of it came from his early days as a "crooner." These were singers who realized that electric microphones meant that you could sing in a quieter, more intimate manner than in the days before amplification. Sinatra's young female fans were likely first encountering his voice in a shockingly personal format, adding to his sex appeal. An earlier crooner, Rudy Vallee, "claimed his sex appeal consisted of a phallic quality in his singing." This Web 1.0 book excerpt has an overview of the whole phenomenon: https://www.shsu.edu/~lis_fwh/book/roots_of_rock/support/crooner/EarlyCroonersIntro2.htm
