All this talk about Nightmare at 20,000 Feet reminds me of one of my favorite episodes of 3rd Rock from the Sun. In the episode William Shatner plays the character of the Big Giant Head, the supreme ruler of the alien species. The main characters go to pick him up at an airport. When they meet him they ask how the flight was, he says it was terrible because he saw something on the wing of the plane; John Lithgow’s character replies saying that the same thing happened to him. Needless to say that got a big laugh and applause break from the audience.

The Explorers! Didn't y'all watch The Explorers growing up?? It bookended with all the great kids-in-the-80's cinema of its time, ie: the Goonies, Stand By Me, etc etc etc.. Anyhow, to me River Phoenix will always be Wolfgang the weird bowlcut nerd savant from Explorers. La Planet Savage (1973) is one of the most captivating animated films of all time, and is a truly compelling piece of post modern art in its own right.

as a lifelong philadelphian i am always delighted to see the broad street bullies show up in this episode. gritty's similarity to the phillie phanatic is not coincidental, as original phanatic performer david raymond was a consultant on gritty's design. here in philly, the unspoken but widely accepted story is that gritty's introduction in 2018 was a direct response to the death of longtime anti-mascot flyers owner ed snider in 2016. additional fun fact: the phanatic (and the montreal expos/canadiens mascot youppi!) was co-created by legendary muppet designer bonnie erickson.

Not sure if I am understanding Henry correctly when he talked about Homer's marina haul. The joke is that people keep their boats at a marina and they keep all of their safety equipment inside the boat (life jackets, horns, etc.) and Homer was just stealing all of that stuff out of some dude's boat. If I misunderstood then I apologize. I love this Treehouse. I probably watched it half a dozen times this past October because why not? I try to watch all of the Treehouse (and Halloween of Horror) episodes at least once during October, but the absolute best ones get watched twice. The stories are great, it's funny, and the animation is delightful. Bart's vampire twister mouth is THE twister mouth for me. And the line I always steal from this episode is Homer's declaration that it's time to go back to the building thingy where their beds and TV is. Almost every time I say that my family responds with confusion. They're such a disappointment...

All the greatest cartoons have great animation, it’s a fact. I don’t care what else is in the Treehouse oeuvre, “Devil and Homer Simpson” is the zenith of the series and the show was never funnier.

MST3k? Twilight Zone? Dracula!? This episode has it all. And if we're picking superlatives among them, here's my run down: Favorite Host: Mike I really like both of them a lot, but growing up without cable, I didn't watch much MST3K till college. I'd go out on Fridays, spend the night in my girlfriend's dorm/apt, then we'd watch Mike and the bots on Sci Fi in the morning. MST3K was a big part of our falling in love and being married these now 19 years. Favorite Gremlin: Shatner The consensus seems to be that the Lithgow gremlin was scarier, but I'd seen Joe Dante's Gremlins by the time I saw the TLZ movie and for me, both types came off more gross out than terrifying. The Shatner gremlin may look like cookie monster, but the way he seemed to be purposely tormenting a mentally fragile man worked for me. Crude 1960s mental treatment was probably no less cruel and Shatner genuinely sells the excruciating anxiety as he's pushed further and further. Favorite Dracula: Copula wins out on the back of Oldman's performance, though I do have a lot of love for Christopher Lee and Hammer Horror. I don't have a lot of love for Reeves' performance in the film, however. Hot take and all, but I think people forget that Keanu wasn't much of an actor early in his career. He improved a lot over the course of the Matrix films and was the one element that consistently got better. Great ep as always and IJQ remains a top shelf guest.

It's such a stupid joke but Grampa's "Quick, we have to kill the boy! / He's a vampire!? (screams)" still sends me into a fit of laughter. I love this Treehouse ep.

Ian’s spot on about PIGS IS PIGS. One of the many underrated REALLY funny cartoons Friz made, after Tex Avery arrived and influenced him, right before MGM lured Friz away for barely two years to make painfully UNfunny ones.
