In this month's podcast, we learn the shocking fact that Bender is immortal. And then Bender learns the shocking fact that he's actually not! When an oil leak reveals that he doesn't have a backup unit, Bender reports himself as defective and becomes a fugitive from Mom—with Hermes in tow. The two end up in Mexico, in a desperate search for the Inspector who mistakenly approved Bender's construction. And what they find there will change Futurama canon FOREVER.

Here I was thinking I could write a spec script Futurama that's a parody of Nier Automata and it's summed up entirely in the line "So I'm doomed to die, and I'll never even get to punch whoever's responsible?" God I wish I could punch whoever stole that opportunity to make something somebody else already did from me.

Just want to say, as a resident of Vancouver, Bob technically lives on Puget Sound as well. A sound is a pretty poorly defined term for a body of water, and Puget Sound technically includes all the bodies of water from the salish sea and straight of georgia up in Vancouver, down into the Olympia region in central Washington.

Twitstory is now my favorite segment by far. So much respect for not looking those up ahead of time

Paul Lynde impressions always get me to perk up because my knowledge of him as a kid was solely due to his role as Templeton in Charlotte's Web and I found the song about the fair to be very amusing. I don't watch too many new animated shows, but I feel like the constant impressions of earlier celebrities like Peter Lorre in all those Looney Tunes cartoons or Paul Lynde are largely a thing of the past.

Mark Ruffalo hung out with Howard Zinn a bit in his last years.

While it's never really been a character trait I've strongly associated with Leela, they play up her occasional/habitual drinking by making her the Captain Haddock stand in in that recent Tintin parody they did during the Hulu run. And hearing you guys talk about Paul Lynde really makes me hope you do a WAC on Samurai Pizza Cats at some point, between the theme song and the villain that dub squeezed TWO impressions of him into every episode.

This was the week where the Twitter story thing paid dividends. Hearing that Henry basically lived a I Think You Should Leave sketch with that bust a nut story was the highlight of this episode. I am clapping for you from my chair in Massachusetts, sirs. This is a fine episode of Futurama. I like the pairing and I am not at all hostile to Bender retcons because the show has pretty well established that it plays it fast and loose with the mechanical man. And Bender and Hermes have had so few meaningful interactions up till now that it works well enough. It's just a case of diminishing returns when it comes to the ending so it doesn't land like some of the other episodes that utilized that ending montage trick. I feel like I'm even growing to appreciate the episode more as I write this as, while I do enjoy The Late Philip J Fry, I do feel it's become a bit overrated over the years while this one is not talked about nearly as much. Perhaps that's a conversation for another day or month.

My pet theory for the retcon of Hermes' and Bender's backstory is that Hermes didn't know Bender was the robot he let pass until this episode when Farnsworth says Bender has no backup unit. There are thousands, potentially millions, of Bending Units in the world, so how would Hermes know all these years that Bender just happened to be the one he let skirt by? Of course, your comments on the proposed but scrapped scene during the montage of Hermes reacting to Bender first getting hired sort of scraps that theory... But since it never aired, I'm sticking to it.

I could get offended over the fact that Henry uses his nerdiest voice for thoughts that I have. Instead, I’ll take joy in knowing there’s a kindred spirit out there.

I just got my money back earlier today from something I bought on Amazon and I'm sure it was a bot but money is money.

I almost busted a nut Henry-style because of the Angelina Jolie SLANDER. Jk, BUT she has a big movie star film coming up - Maria - which is getting lots of great press with no mention of the wife beater Pitt. And while praising her male MCU colleague for having cool views, you could have mentioned her being outspoken about human rights in Palestine, Sudan and more for years. It’s time to rewatch Hackers, follow her on IG and fall in love. And then we're gonna grease ourselves up real good and trash Brad Pitt’s place with a baseball bat.
