VCV Rack is the free modular Eurorack software platform that lets you do SO GODDAMN MUCH. It's truly amazing, and I love it as a doodle tool and as an educational tool.

I decided to take what I know about hardware Eurorack and teach it in VCV. This is a 4-part series that goes over everything you'll need to know to get started making music in Eurorack.

The 1st video is linked above, and the playlist is here.

Let's Learn Eurorack (ft. VCV Rack): 01 - The Basics

Let's learn modular synthesis! In the first video of this 4-part series, we'll learn the basics of gate, pitch, and more. Very nice, and I am excited to see the rest of the series. One comment (I apologize for being that guy...): Early on you used the term subtractive synthesis to describe amplitude modulating a sine wave, as in subtracting volume. I am certainly not an expert, but I don't think that is the right term to use in that case. I believe subtractive vs additive synthesis specifically refers to how the higher frequency content is generated to create a certain timbre. Later in the video you used a saw waveform that has a bunch of harmonic content that was then subtracted by the filter. Additive synthesis would be taking multiple sine waves at different frequencies and adding them together to get the same timbre. I think you would use a VCA to do amplitude modulation in both of those cases. I'm not sure what exactly mixing different saw wave together would be called. 🤷‍♂️ Again, my apologies for bringing up a small point, but since we are all learning here I thought I would mention it.

This is wonderful. I would have been absolutely stoked at this video when I was getting into synthesis a decade ago.
