Hello everyone,

Early access for a video I'm excited about. This goes through a bunch of techniques to use Ableton in a more generative capacity to make a piece that sounds like music. From simple probability to note-masked chord generators to foley percussion randomizers, I hope there's something in here for you to discover.

You can download the Ableton session from this video here.

 It uses Ableton 11 suite.

Generative Music Techniques for Ableton Live (And Beyond!)

Generative music is music written by a system of rules you define. In this video, we'll examine ways to make use of Ableton's default devices in a generative context. 00:00 intro 01:21 simple probability 02:36 interrelatability 03:25 probability into arpeggiation 06:09 topology 07:07 deterministic anchors 07:50 probabilistic drum rack: foley 10:49 probabilistic drum rack: percussion 14:15 chord generator 17:07 melodic rhythm guitar generator 19:45 randomizing lead sounds with sampler 23:25 bassline generator 25:12 drums 26:40 playing it for you 27:37 recap 30:40 outro ------------------------------------ Patreon: http://bit.ly/rmrpatreon My Music: Bandcamp: http://bit.ly/2Kq617o Soundcloud: http://bit.ly/2NOH9Is Spotify: https://spoti.fi/2N40SoX Google Play: http://bit.ly/33M9aG5 iTunes: https://apple.co/2pqh3SK Amazon Music: https://amzn.to/2O9q1fe Merch: http://bit.ly/rmrshirts Connect: Twitter: http://bit.ly/rmrtwitters Website: http://bit.ly/rmrmedia

Fantastic primer, and it applies to other DAWs quite well, once you figure out where they're hiding the probability function. I played around with some of these techniques in LMMS today, and I'm pleased with the results!

I’ve been doing generative stuff in Ableton for over a decade and there are techniques in here that went directly into my toolkit.
