This is actually a conversation I have relatively often, around picking books.

Honestly, because I have choice paralysis when it comes to reading, especially if I'm really busy and pressed for time. I don't want to pick a book that I'll end up not loving that I spent my time on?!

For me, it is a multitude of reasons listed below that will get me to make the final choice. But in the end, what makes me pick the book will probably be the summary... which, now that I'm really putting it in writing, is a little terrifying because of how often I struggle to make sure the summaries I'm writing are well done and gripping...

Alas! What makes you as a reader pick up a book? And if it's not listed here, feel free to let me know in the comments what your selection process is!

When I find a story that I absolutely enjoy by an author, my curiosity has me wanting to read everything else they wrote/write. So, that’s a deciding factor. Also, the summary and reviews will get me to pick up a new author I haven’t read from in the past.

I pick books based on suggestions from a few FB groups I have joined, and a book swap we do at work. I also do this whole 4 book thing (cause I’m weird) 1. A book by an author I know, 2. A book by an author I haven’t read before 3. A non-fiction book and 4. A genre outside of the sapphic world (this is where the books from work come in handy). The books that are not suggestions I mainly look for a topic I’m interested in and summary. Then there is when you or Milena McKay release a new book and rules? There are no rules, everything gets dropped. My life will be utter chaos if you two were ever to release a new book at the same time!
