Re the live rounds on the obstacle course., we used live rounds in the Army, but by the time i went through the weapons were locked into a position that kept the floor of fire at 3.5-4 feet. We were told that if we had an issue(snake/medical emergency etc) raise ur hand. Don’t stand up

If you're going to watch one Ridley Scott movie that you haven't seen before, make it 'The Duellists'. You haven't lived until you've seen Harvey Keitel as a Napoleonic Frenchman with a New York accent. Also notable for its historically accurate sword fighting.

I feel like Gabrus’ story of his dad, in his grandmother’s pink sweatpants, clearing fatbergs, is somehow a sign that we’re all making progress. We’re all doing the work.

Those poor Libyan dudes just having a normal day until then

I clogged the new toilet at my mom’s when I was home for Christmas. The plunger she has didn’t work so I went to buy another one. It didn’t work, so I was back at the hardware store like 30 minutes later to get a different one and the cashier made a comment about it

Are we just going to brush over the cutting edge disguise of raining shit on yourself to look like a moving oil rig? 💯

American toilets suck. Whenever I am in the US (from Australia) i am always clogging toilets, but never do back in Australia. I think it has somethin to do with you guys having so much water in the bowl.

Jason Beghe interview on how he got in and the hell out of Scientology. It's a great listen: https://youtu.be/KHb0BZyF5Ok

The first time I visited my ex-girlfriend in Berlin I didn't realize their ancient apartment building had these low-flow shelf toilets before sitting down, or that they existed at all. Took a giant dump that nearly came up to my balls, and then just stood there hungover and with no clue whatsoever how to deal with it.

“You should’ve seen the size of the goddamn Turkey!” 😄

Scorsese’s Last Temptation of Christ is great for Keitel as Brooklyn Judas. Plus Harry Dean Stanton as Saul/Paul, Dafoe as Jesus, Bowie as Pontius Pilate…

This episode was an A+ classic Action Boyz listen. Was laughing my ass off many times including the imagery of Gabrus flooding the spiderhole with shit water. I will say that there was some recent reporting by the New York Times indicating that we're certainly not in a kindler gentler Navy SEALs era. In the article I am linking they have this: "The Navy has made hundreds of changes over the years meant to improve safety and increase graduation rates. At the same time, the SEALs who run the course have quietly resisted anything they see as lowering standards. So no matter how much the Navy has tried to make BUD/S easier, it seems to only get harder. In the 1980s, about 40 percent of candidates graduated. Over the past 25 years, the average has dropped to 26 percent. In 2021, it was just 14 percent, and in Seaman Mullen’s class this year, less than 10 percent." https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/30/us/navy-seal-training-death.html https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/12/us/navy-seal-training-death-report.html https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/09/us/navy-seals-recruits.html

Excuse my ignorance if it’s been posted elsewhere but anyone see Project Wolf Hunting? What a goddamn layered masterpiece of Korean cinema following the 80s/90s action movie blueprint and making it modern and violent. There is some noticeable cgi but worth it. Yup I am and was very high when I watched it.

From some of my navy vet friends, this might be because some people have a bud/s course as part of their enlistment contract - that is, they go through basic and then get a chance at bud/s - and if you fail out there is a contingency that you get a different preferred MOS from a preselected list. Makes it easier to try and be a seal but also leads to more drop outs. No idea how truly common that practice is, though.

There has to be some genetic explanation for why the somewhat out of context reference with a through story works so well. The Harold intuitively works with the movie breakup. Intro - movie - middle - other part of movie - close. Moby Dick does it. House of Leaves does it esoterically. Shakespeare does it in a very organized way. Muppets do it. Really at it’s heart it’s just how crazy can the Chorus be, can it be/ should it be primary or if not, at least bail us out.

Never seent that but Korean action flicks can be pretty great.

The roundup is another super entertaining one I would recommend.

David

Kind of perverse that Rodgers is like, “we didn’t know how good we had it with Fire Down Below, but Ridley Scott’s GI Jane? This has problems.”

David

Because you’re using an ironic lens to evaluate FDB & a serious one to judge GIJ & coming to the opposite conclusion than you would’ve applying the same lens to both. It’s like saying the Obama administration had problems but we didn’t know how good we had it with the W administration cuz he was so stupid & embarrassing.

Will See

Hell yeah
