So to answer the question, yes the Imps needs the spell book to freely access the human world, having access to the grimorie is the whole reason for Blitzo getting involved with Stolas, and it's why Stolas needed to do the whole possession and drawing out a summoning circle to appear rather then just make another portal. Also, fun trivia, that is the actual summoning circle for Stolas from the Ars Goetia, the book of demon lore that a lot of the stuff in this show is based on. We'll see more of those later on. This ep... was wild, some in revelations for Blitzo that make plain what's kind of been hinted at in the past, that a lot of his attitude and actions towards people is him trying to drive away people because he has abandonment issues, and so feels if everyone is going to leave anyway, better it be on his terms then when it will hurt worse. A sadly not uncommon way of dealing with that stress. Also soooooo much epic killin'! Damn that fight scene was awesome!

This isn't particularly episode related but oh well, I just had this revelation while watching this episode with you. But every time we've seen Stolas show up his leitmotif (the little melody that plays whenever he first shows up} is the main melody line for a soon to come song. (i realise I could wait to make this post but oh well). Fun fact though - Leit motifs are usually given to important / main characters (think the music that plays whenever Luke Skywalker shows up in Star Wars) but Blitz doesn't seem to have this. Further solidifying that he doesn't actually see himself as worth much if anything.
