2001 was shot in 'Cinerama' form, that's like IMAX without 3D.. According to actor Kier Dullea,Dave followed the Monolith into the "Realm of infinite knowledge"..Cool fact,Back in 1968 during the intermission people would go outside to get elevated for the 2nd half..

It's complicated to watch. But very good! Also the music Kubrick choose is 👍👌

So extraterrestrials sent the monolith to ancient earth where it sparked the next major step in evolution for that tribe of apes. Those apes evolved into us, human beings. Those same extraterrestrials also deliberately buried a monolith on the moon for humans to eventually reach and discover. Extraterrestrials setting this goalpost with the monolith on the moon as a sign those apes have evolved to a certain point. Evolved to a point they can reach space. The monolith sent a signal out humans followed. The lone astronaut who made it out to that point signaled again human beings were ready for the next major step in their evolution. That next step in evolution being the star child we see at the end of the movie.

Kubrick used this as an art piece rather than a faithful rendition of Arthur C. Clark's novel. Much of it makes more sense in the book. The sequel is marginally more coherent. I was greatly disappointed when 2001 rolled around, and we hadn't even returned to the moon 🌝

So Dawn wants to see monkeys and aliens having "relations" as well as some zero-g soup kitchen stuff lol. Yes the film is a little bit maddening because it looks awesome throughout but the story itself is paper thin, so it is more about the presentation than anything else. Last time I watched it I was very stoned so I can say it is better to see it that way. That reaction was definitely how I felt the first time I watched it. Nicely done. xxx

If Rosemary's gets best movie ever and 2001 doesn't simply means, there is a major flaw in your ranking system. I hope you improve on the movies you chose to react to because just pulling them out of the air is not getting it done. It's clear you are not getting any help from a lot of the guys here because they think they're in love and you can do no wrong.

2001 contains several often repeated cultural references but is hard to follow. For me it's strongest recommender is it sets up movie 2010 which is, IMO, worth the watch Follow up Now that 2001 gave you the questions 2010 (not Kubrick) has some answers 🤷‍♂️

Hey Dawn!!! Your ranking system where you spontaneously and arbitrairly decide to yell out on a whim “Best Movie Ever!!!” is really coming into question. Does this system still have integrity?! Are you searching the depths of your soul for each movie before deciding whether or not to yell out “Best movie ever!”? More importantly. Are you considering the fee-fee’s of your patrons? When you don’t yell out “Best movie ever!” for a movie we really love, well it hurts our fee-fee’s Dawn. And we’re a sensitive lot. 😢

I had never seen this. I need to think about it. But honestly, what an amazingly gorgeous movie. I can't believe how bright and clear and vibrant it is. Brilliant.
