Gene Wilder was actually very insistent that Mel Brooks only direct and not appear in the movie. Young Frankenstein was Wilder's baby, and he worried that if Mel acted in it, he'd overshadow the project. But Mel Brooks did make the screeching cat noise you hear when they're throwing darts. Madeline Kahn (the fiance/Bride of Frankenstein) and Kenneth Mars (Inspector Kemp) both star in the 1972 screwball comedy What's Up Doc? which you would absolutely love. I can't recommend it enough. And there's a scene in Everybody Loves Raymond--you can find it on YouTube--during a Halloween episode where Peter Boyle walks in dressed as Frankenstein's monster and it gets a huge applause from the live audience. Wonderful callback!

Eric Bonham

Before doing Monty Python, John Cleese and Graham Chapman appeared in a show called At Last the 1948 Show with Marty Feldman. You can find it on YouTube. He appeared in the move Yellowbeard with Graham Chapman as well. I believe this was his final role.

Great reaction!! You know it is so helpful to watch the original movies first, then Mel's parody. Before Men in tights... you should watch Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, also watch the 1938 The Adventures of Robin Hood. Its in color. The Adventures of Robin Hood could be a Patreon Exclusive.

Dawn, so if you want to see the Frankenstein Monster dog, then see the 2012 movie “Frankenweenie”. And a cast member you overlooked, or at least didn’t mention from this movie, the actor who played the blind man in this parody. That was Gene Hackman, who was a legendary actor from the 1970s. You have seen him on the channel. You last saw him as the super criminal mastermind Lex Luthor. From the original Superman movie

For the ghost thing we should have to MESSAGE YOU with the time stamp, rather than a public comment. Unless there is only to be one winner per movie, etcetera-- Then whoever comments first wins. If there are to be multiple winners we should PM the answer to you.

Speaking of Frankenweenie Dawn, Yes that is what the good Doctor got from his monster in the transference. lol

I looked that up. YF was '74. Feldman passed in December '82 filming the '83 film Yellowbeard. Marty was also in Mel Brooks' Silent Movie in '76 and on an ep of The Muppet Show in '81.

Eric Bonham

Also, I thought you were going to love Igor's Groucho Marx impression, but it seemed like you didn't even notice.

How to get Dawn to lose it? - show her a slapstick dançe scene!

As others have mentioned, you must see YELLOWBEARD. Marty Feldman, Peter Boyle, Madeline Khan all from this film, plus Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle from MONTY PYTHON . Also appearing in it, Nigel Planer ( Neil) from THE YOUNG ONES. James Mason, Spike Milligan, Cheech & Chong, and a certain Rock Star whom you’ll miss if you blink
.

I would also recommend TO BE OR NOT TO BE (1983) which stars Mel Brooks (although he didn’t write or direct it). It is a remake of a classic film from the 40’s and co-stars his wife Anne Bancroft.

I almost forgot, Kenneth Mars, who plays Inspector Kemp, is also in YELLOWBEARD (playing duel roles). He was also the one who played the Nazi playwright Franz Liebkind in THE PRODUCERS.

They wanted to recreate the lab as closely as possible, so they contacted the builder of the original equipment for help, only to find that he had all his gizmos stored in his garage. Also, Mel Brooks did not like the dance number in the script and repeatedly told Wilder to take it out. According to Gene it was the only major argument they ever had.
