Robert Inman

Mal also had to push Wash pretty hard at Niska's to help ignore the torture. I think it was telling about how fast Zoe picked up on Mal's joking about their needing to bed each other in front of Wash - he was making it clear that the conversation on the rack was not really true.

Rumpus Parable

This and Out of Gas are my favorite episodes. The torture scene is just great for both humor and heart between Mal and Wash. The end does the same with bringing the three of them around to a shared experience and joke. Wash has been largely on the outside and feeling it since the first episode.... the three of them all get new insights and connections with each other. I love how it ends with that shown by the first sign of real buddy-shit-giving we've ever had between the three.
