If I had to choose one Cleese character—and I think it grossly unfair, not to say cruel, to put us on the spot this way—I would choose the Ministry of Silly Walks.

Basil Fawlty is the best. In an exaggerated way he's the relatable everyman. The way John Cleese looks like he's literally melting down when Basil is frustrated is hilarious. This is a man who is on the edge of being institutionalized at any moment.
