Lovely rollercoaster of a reaction, which is very much what the film evokes. A film to add to your list is "Living", starring Bill Nighy. It's only just been released and I saw it last week. A great mixture of the amusing and poignant. You will love it, I'm sure.

Another impeccable 90s prison film with another world class actor: In The Name Of The Father (Daniel Day-Lewis; 1993) True story, set in 1974 Belfast and London about IRA bombings etc. Nominated for 7 Oscars and 3 BAFTAs.
