Arrr indeed!! 🤬 So you're maybe aware from other movie reactors but there's something very strange happening with YouTube right now. I swear every morning I wake up and a different video (some from years ago) has either been copyright claimed or BLOCKED!! I'm having the same issue with Dead Man's Chest 🙄 which is why it's late. Sorry!

I'll be completely honest. It's a big stress!! I'm having to keep videos shorter and go through it several times but more often than not it still gets a claim. All of the recent videos that have performed well have been copyright claimed, so have been demonetized 😢 I don't understand what's happening and I feel a bit pee'd off and disheartened by it.

There are also (as far as I can tell) completely fake companies claiming rights to the videos and if I dispute too many times, I get a copyright strike! Which can be the end of the channel altogether if I get three 😭 Plus, YouTube don't seem to be providing any help at all!

Anyway! I'm trying to stay positive but I'll only have the two uploads this week so I can spend some time trying to figure out what on earth is going on and go back over videos again!

The saddest part, as I understand it, is that it is not even human moderators performing the reviews. The uptick in this activity is being caused by new applications of A.I. doing what A.I. does, screwing things up. One of the reasons YouTube personnel are silent or of no help is that they don't understand the new technology themselves. If the problem was Human-related then we could all storm YT HQ and hang them up by their toes and boil them in oil for threatening the most cherished person on earth, but sadly we are now at the mercy of the machines. I wouldn't blame Miss Dawn if she shied away from YT and just posted here on Patreon. I know of at least one other YouTuber that has done just that. As long as she doesn't disappear from my life altogether.

If the videos are being flagged by bots, a watermark (e.g. a translucent version of the Dawn Marie smiling square logo) or minimally-intrusive filter over the video window might help. A 10-second screen at the beginning of each reaction video stating U.K.'s "fair dealing" policy also could be worth a shot. I'm no lawyer, but while the UK's "fair dealing" seems more stringent than the US's "fair use" exceptions, a heavily edited reaction video should have no problem meeting those exceptions. You're hoping that presence of a few key phrases in the policy *may* reduce the chances of a bot automatically flagging a video.

So the idea would be to bring a whole bunch of new patrons into the fold from YT subscriber pool who'd be willing to pay for Dawn's content? And that would offset her financial loss from YT, depending on how many join Patreon? That sounds great if possible.

Woah, Dawn… if it’s true that Charade is public domain, this is a perfect opportunity for you to react to a really fun classic movie you will love! And many of the other public domain movies listed by the other commenter are absolute gems. In particular, these are all stone classics and I really think you’ll love all of them: His Girl Friday Meet John Doe My Man Godfrey And i’ve always had a special place in my heart for Algiers. Fun fact: the main character in Algiers, Pepe Le Moko, was the inspiration for the Looney Tunes skunk Pepe Le Pew. You’ll finally understand his catchphrase “come with me to the Casbah.” Anyway, I’m really hoping you’ll use this opportunity to try watching classic movies again. And NOT. FREAKING. WESTERNS. The best of what classic film has to offer is outside of the Western genre. There’s so many amazing genres, actors and films, you’ve no idea all that awaits you. It just kills me that you haven’t even seen the most basic classic films like Gone With The Wind or even a single Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movie yet. You really haven’t scratched the surface of what classic Hollywood has to offer, so I hope you’ll break out of your Western classics only streak sooner rather than later. By the way, I wouldn’t be surprised if these YouTube problems turn out to be attacks by a certain country that has just banned YouTube. They have a long history of instigating chaos for the West online.

Really sorry to hear this. Sucks that all the effort gets thrown away. I hope it's sorted soon
