You made a comment about Tim Cook saying that China had open internet ... this may be a matter of perspective. Since the Party meeting a few months ago, I've noticed many of my colleagues having full internet access in China, when roaming on their foreign sim cards. While I usually swapped in a China Unicom sim while working in China (to avoid roaming charges), I tried roaming on my HK sim and sure enough, I had full internet access. Google, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and every other usually banned site or service was completely accessible. I can even broadcast a hot-spot from my phone and get unrestricted access on my laptop as well. I don't know why they're allowing this, but as a business person, it makes working in China infinitely more tolerable. I'd assume that Tim Cook discovered this lack of restriction, and assumed that the CCP had loosened it's grip.
