Here is our latest Honest Government Ad, which as always you've made possible through your support here on Patreon. Thank you.
Canadians have been requesting an HGA for years (I'm not exagerating), so finally, here we are!
It feels like this HGA has taken me years to make: I tried in early 2020 (just after the RCMP raids shown in the HGA). But then Covid happened and then the US election, and then Australia's election, and well... SORRY, CANADIANS!
But this year, in April, I had the honour of being invited to Canada to share ideas with a bunch of talented satirists who are producing content about their own Government's climate shitfuckery.
A big thanks to JP (one of our Patrons) at the Trottier Foundation for arranging my visit and connecting me with some awesome folks there, including David Suzuki in Vancouver, Kai Nagata at Dogwood (who has been researching the link between CGL and David Petraeus), Carol Linnitt at The Narwhal (which has been doing by far the best reporting on Coastal GasLink), and others (full credits in the video description).
Thanks to these conversations I was able to get a better sense of what's happening on the ground with the Coastal GasLink pipeline - which is ~90% completed, bar the final tract passing through Wet'Suwet'En lands.
I am so inspired by the resistance these land-defenders are putting up against some of the most powerful global financial firms, banks and interests behind CGL. It reminds me of Standing Rock in the US of 2016, and similar campaigns here in Australia.
Of course, all three of these countries are extractivist settler-colonies, so we have much shitfuckery in common. Which is why learning about what's happening in Canada gives us valuable insight into what's going on right here in Australia - for example, right now in Western Australia (see our HGA, Visit WA)
So I am honoured to put The Juice Media to the service of this cause by helping this story reach more people with this Honest Government Ad: Visit Canada. Because the fight over the Coastal GasLink is about to fire up again and when it does, it's important that people know what's going on.
I'm not gonna lie, this HGA has been a mamoth task - by far the hardest one I've done so far, and it took extra time to get some fact-checking done, and clear permissions from First Nations for use of footage. Which is partly why I wasn't able to get it out before the end of August.
As always, thank you Patrons for making this work possible. There's no way I could dedicate the time and energy it takes to research and produce such work without you.
I also want to let you know that sadly, my beautiful mother in Cape Town (South Africa) is dying. So I will be getting on a plane in a few days to see her for the last time to say my goodbyes.
For this reason I apologise in advance if we don't manage to get an HGA done in September. (I will try my best)
On the bright side, I will be publishing my interview with David Suzuki when I get back from South Africa, and that will definitely be out before the end of Sept.
