(Update) Julian! / Potato-head amends shitty law / Modi strikes again (Patreon)

Dear awesome Patrons

Here's an update on things that have happened these past few days, while I edit this month's Honest Government Ad (which we filmed yesterday!)

Firstly, the great news: Julian Assange has been released from Belmarsh prison in the UK and is currently on his way home to Australia; via the Nortern Mariana Islans, where he's pleading guilty before a US judge as part of a plea-deal. (Take note, dictators, this is how we do justice in the west... torture a publisher for doing their job for 5 years without trial, then force them to plead guilty or die in jail).

As some of you will recall, we've been covering the work of Assange and Wikileaks for the past 13 years, including this Rap News episode featuring a cameo from Julian himself, filmed in London just a few weeks before he was first arrested in 2010; and this episode which I filmed with him in the Ecuadorian embassy in 2013; and this Honest Government Ad which we made when he was dragged out of said embassy in 2019; among others.

So as you can imagine, we can't wait to welcome Julian home to Australia - his flight is scheduled to arrive in Canberra this evening!

Secondly, more good news: the Tasmanian government has announced a bill to amend s196 of their Electoral Act, you know - the one that was used to order us (unconstitutionally some might argue) to take down our recent Honest Government Ad about Tassie's election. Good to know this shitty law will finally be gone. I've attached a photo of the proposed changes to the Act. Let's hope they call it the Electoral Amendment (Potato Prevention) Act 2024.

And lastly, in ironic news: the Chosen One has now ordered YouTube to block our latest video about democracy in India. Here's an interview I did with an Indian media outlet last week, about this and the Juice Media in general. It's great to see indy India media covering Modi's shitfuckery.

Ok, that's all the updates I have for now. I'm about to settle in to a few days of solid editing for our next Honest Government Ad, about another big topic. I'll be back to share the audio preview in the coming days with everyone in the Previews Club. And I'll let you know when the video is out shortly after -probably early next week, if not on the weekend!
