The Mockingjay book does a better job of explaining several things: First, Prim's death is far more intense in the book. Katniss almost gives herself up after that. There's a reason she doesn't end up with Gale. In her mind, it was Gale's plan (from the beginning of the movie with Beetee) that was put into action by Coin and caused her sister's death in the capital. After that, she couldn't look at him the same. Also, in the book, there is a lot of Katniss inner monologue that makes it clear that she always saw Gale like her brother (even though he loved her). After the first games she feels confused because she feels something for both Gale and Peeta, but doesn't know exactly how she feels. Lastly, the epilogue with their kids is interesting. In the book, they make it clear that Katniss was fearful of having children after the PTSD of what she went through, but Peeta wanted them so after 15 years they have a child. They are ALMOST 40 at the end of the film. That's a lot of trauma. You're right, the momentum is not there in the end. The last 30 minutes are maybe 25 pages in the book, so they definitely stretched it...I think you would have enjoyed it more if it was one movie.

For sure ! Still enjoyable just seemed longer than necessary ! Thanks for explaining Gale though. That makes more sense.

The decision to make the final book in this series into 2 movies was purely a money grab. In terms of the story, it makes no sense as these are not long books at all. It makes sense for the final book of the Harry Potter series (I refuse to recognize The Cursed Child as canon) to be turned into 2 movies because that book is over 700 pages. My issues with the final 2 Harry Potter movies has more to do with the decisions the director made, but still very entertaining movies. For me, the last 2 Hunger Games movies weren't as enjoyable because they stretched out such little material into what amounts to a 4 1/2 hour movie. Having said that, it's nowhere near as bad as what happened to The Hobbit adaptation. That was one fairly small book stretched out into 3 long movies! All right, rant over!

Prim dying at the end always got to me, especially since Katniss entered the Hunger Games for her

So in the book it’s explained so much better why Katniss chose Peeta over Gale. Peeta and I grow back together. There are still moments when he clutches the back of a chair and hangs on until the flashbacks are over. I wake screaming from nightmares of mutts and lost children. But his arms are there to comfort me. And eventually his lips. On the night I feel that thing again, the hunger that overtook me on the beach, I know this would have happened anyway. That what I need to survive is not Gale’s fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that. So after, when he whispers, “you love me real or not real?” I tell him, “Real.” Mockingjay page 388 The books are great at showing you Katniss’s inner monologue especially when it comes to why she killed Coin. I enjoyed your reactions to this franchise. There is a prequel movie coming called The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. It’s about a young Snow. It looks really good. Check out the trailer for it.
